I'm a big fan of override switches - and LED indicators. You'll find those two controllers I mentioned have A/C control built in....

So one like this should be more than sufficent?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Spal-...spagenameZWDVW

If so, how would I go about wiring in 2 LED override switches for each fan??

Go to Spal's site & download the FAN-PWM manual. http://www.spalusa.com/

There are schematics in there for several configurations.

Add the Leds across the fan motors.

Use the override switches to drive additional high-current relays; contacts of which are tied into the positive side of each fan. This lets you use smaller low current switches. Fuse EVERYTHING.

Pat & others have published some diagrams as well, for other approaches.

BTW - SPAL's fans are excellent - some of the best you'll find. See that same link.

Yup, let me know if you need help finding them, or would like me to do one up for your case specifically.

That's a fair price for the controller. You will need another wiring harness and sensor to make it work for dual fans with a/c. As suggested try the Spal website and look at the instructions.

Ok I think I can pick out my fans, figured I'd go with dual 14 inchers.

Now with the SPAL controller, does everything (fans, sensor) hook to that directly and it controls all of that OR do I need more stuff? I see wiring harnesses and relays, etc etc. Does the controller take care of that or do I need relays and wiring harnesses with the controller?

IE: my list to buy is as follows
Controller
2 14" fans with mounting hardware
sensor

Is that right or do I need 2 relays as well?

Can you guys recommend a complete E fan kit or a couple to choose from to set up a 4.6 L . A kit that has everything in it and instructions to walk a noobish person through installation.

I get the idea, but I want the kit so I dont have any goof ups homejobbing it.

MGDFan is so right: Be careful what you put on your truck. You are talking about your cooling system here and if you cheap out when summer comes you may live to regret it. I have always been a believer in you usually get what you pay for! I paid for a Troyer kit that was designed for the application. I was not happy about laying out that much money, but I also had to consider the consequences of not doing it right. I'm not saying that you can't piece together a workable setup. Just be careful what you use to make it. Good Luck.

You'd have to either
A build your own
B buy from Troyer Performance
C buy from flexalite company
D there may be other that manufacter fan kits for ur 98, just do a search on the google.

I have the FAL kit #295 in my 03 expedition 4.6. That is a universal kit and I had to fab some brackets and things becuase they don't really make a dedicated kit for the Ex. They do make them for the F150's though, and I understand that they bolt right up to existing brackets.

My impression - the kit has dual fans mounted in a solid shroud. Shroud is lined with weather stripping to make a nice tight seal up against the radiator. All wiring, fuse holder and hardware is included. Quality parts. The controller looks quality - but it is electronic so looks could be deciiving. However, all connections are epoxied for water tightness, all connectors are well marked. Instructions were ok; not bad really. You will have to find some wires such as the AC clutch wire (usually gray/white wire coming off clutch). My ac clutch is WAY on the bottom so I had to dig around to find it.

I mounted my controller inside the cab behind the glove box on the frame with wide strips of velcro. Keeps the controller clean, dry and climate controlled. Took me extra long, heavier gage wire (had to purchase separately) because the controller was mounted farther away from battery. Ran wireing through existing ports in frame behind the glove box, through the wheel well, up into the engine compartment behind the battery on the PSG side of the bay.

I paid 350 or so from Amazon last summer. so far no problems. Picked up about 1-2 mpgs, and noticably better accelleration and pickup (for an Expedition).

Conclusion - great kit, well made here in US. I would echo comments above that if you Rube Goldberg a fan from a junk yard (no disrespect to those who have done this), you don't knwo what kind of fan you are getting, its conditon or anything. No warranty, no tech support. You are on your own. Not worth the cost of a new motor for me to spend a few hundred on a quality installation.

If you don't want to lay out a few hundred for a good kit, I would suggest you not go for efans until you can afford it. For some who REALLY know what they are doing (not me), they can probably get away with the junk yard route. I just didn't want to chance my engine.

I have a pdf of a powerpoint I made of my install. I can email it to you if you'd like. Pleas PM me with your home addy if you want it.
