Question Clock spring

Hi, I am new here. I saw in an earlier post that horn, cruise and air bag not working could be a clock spring. Where is the clock spring located?

When you remove the steering wheel it is the ring that the yellow wire to bag comes from. The clockspring is part of SRS, so be careful. Is the airbag light on? If the airbag light is not on then the clockspring is not the problem.

Clocksprings were a p.o.s. on those years, and I changed a bunch of them, but you will get an intermittent airbag light on the dash if it's toes-up. Don't try to change it yourself, unless you know what you're doing. There's plenty to screw up if you're not careful.

What's the worst he could screw up? A few scratches on the column shroud? If you're referring to the airbag - it's almost impossible to set one off, even intentionally.

Yeah the air bag light goes on and off, the horn does not work and the cruise control is dead.
Thanks for the diagram.

For starters, you have to center-up the clockspring. They come with a retainer holding them in place, but if you get them out of center, they will break the coiled wires when you turn the wheel all the way. Additionally, the small cruise plug is a bitch to pull apart, and ive seen guys uproot them. I've seen wires pinched, when re-installing the airbag. Others don't own a wheel puller, and they'll reef on the steering wheel until they frig up a bearing, or bend the wheel. I watched a guy with a 3 lb. hammer beating the crap out of the bolt that holds the wheel on. Yaneverknow

Well, I typically hit the nut/bolt to pop the wheel off, but I do it so it doesn't hurt the column or take more than a couple of whacks.
