Fuel filter

I was going to change my fuel filter a while back and in the Haynes repair book it says u need a special tool to get it off. So i had the dealer fix it when it was in there. Do you really need a special tool to get it off or is there a trick to gettin it off without the tool. I have a 2000 with a 5.4 motor. Thanks

do a search on the subject and you should find pic of the tool. You can get them at most any auto parts store for about $10. Yes, you need it.

Had the dealer do mine. I had a very bad experience wrestling with a fuel filter on a Mustang, thinking I didn't need that "special tool". Sometimes its better to just pay the man.

It's one of the easiet things you will ever do on these trucks. Takes about 10 minutes and the tool cost $10, a Motorcraft filter $11 to $13. The dealer charges $65 to $70. Total rip off. Do a search, there are even pictures in a thread of step by step.

i agree. 70$ for fuel filter is a rip off. dam! 70$ is a oil change, new air filter and the fuel filter doing the work yourself.
