98 4.6 my power sucks

Guys help me out. My in town power is fine and I get reasonable gas milage but on the highway my power sucks. Getting on the highway or passing someone I have to pound on it to get any power. Is this a normal 4.6 thing? Or is something else up? I had some head repairs a fe years back and they were playing with timing alot but i dont know whats wrong. I have all the high performance tune up stuff( MSD wires and coils, K&N etc) running premium. Is this something I just have to live with or do I go to Troyer to tune me?

Ive checked all the basics liek fuel filter, etc. It just doesnt seem right. Actually I had gotten used to it until I had a couple friends recently drive it and they both asked me where my trucks ***** went?

ANy ideas how to find them?

On my 4.6 this same thing was happening. My friend who is a mechanic had to take the intake off and he cleaned that all up (inside). it all had to do with the emissions on the thing. egr ports were PLUGGED

The 4.6L doesn't have oodles of power to spare. It has to work pretty hard to move that 6000 pound truck. You can mod the heck out of a 4.6L and it'll still be a dog. It's a good, solid engine which normally delivers excellent highway MPG... but it has no power to spare.

Plugged EGR ports shouldn't make a lick of difference when it comes to power. If they were plugged, you should have a check engine light and code P0401. It's a pretty easy job to clean them yourself. On most models, just remove the EGR valve, remove the air filter housing and hosing, then remove the intake elbo. You'll find two ports in the intake elbo that go from where the EGR valve mounts through the elbo. I just scrape the crud out with a screw driver. The whole job takes about 20 minutes.

My title says "Shipping Weight 4480 LBS" . Guess I'll have to roll it across the scales ......

My '98 P71 weighed almost that much and ran like a monkey with it's a$$ on fire!

My '53 F250 flatbed weighed 4180 LBS, powered by a 239 c.i. Flathead v8 3 speed & 4.86 split rear end. She'd crawl up a tree but was screamin' @ 55 mph.
