4.6 H.O. details/specs
Hey Y'all,
I have found a decent deal on a 4.6 H.O. motor in the crate from a dealer, and my engine is getting pretty worn so I've been wondering exactly what the difference is....bigger valves?...different cam?
However, the search engine in the forums hasn't been helpful and I don't really know where to look. So, if somebody could link me to an article or chart comparing the standard 4.6 to the 4.6 H.O. I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Brad
P.S. if i can't use it I'll let you know where to look if you need it lol

hmmm...I didn't know that. But, that's why I ask these questions before I spend my hard-earned money.
But what bothers me is the parts manager out there has been a friend of my family for a lot of years and I don't think he'd lie to me. And he should know what he's talking about....strange.
BTW Faster150, as I understand it the H.O. is for High Output and is a slightly stronger motor used in police cars and the like. I had one in an old F-150 years ago but by the time I got it somebody had swapped the heads and intake, so I didn't really get to see the whole engine and what was in it. (However, I did get to see a good deal of the inside thanks to the cheapo rebuilt heads).
Thanks Guys!
EDIT
Faster150, I think I misunderstood your comment...you mean you've never heard of it in a 4.6, I guess. lol I'm definatly not trying to be a know-it-all here...because I certainly can't keep up with all the options on these new vehicles.

The only real difference between the police car motors and "normal" 4.6 motors is the use of an oil cooler and HD engine cooling system. There is no "special heads or intakes" ( for the police cars up here anyway )
What year was your old F-150? By the sounds of it someone else did the PI swap?

I don't remember what year that truck was...about a '90 I think with the split windows on the sides of the supercab. It was an old beater that I bought to get to work and back, but I think somebody had swapped the engine. The air cleaner had 351 H.O. printed on it and that's when I started finding out all this stuff I've been talking about. But, that was word-of-mouth stuff and that's why I'm fact finding on this one.
The engine had been stripped of anything good and replaced with really bad work...for instance the valve stems were ground down and put in under sized guides on those heads, which effectively removes the hard surface according to the machine shop that replaced them for me. And what started it all was the studs backing out of the heads, so I went in to get them pinned and found out about the valves.
I figured if that stuff was worth stealing it must have had big valves or something. I mean, if you're going to put H.O. on the engine it should do something better than stock. Hell, it could have just been heavy main journals or something like that.
I may have just got it in my head over the years that they use of those engines in police cars and such...my memory ain't all that.
