When towing, I leave the OD on until it downshifts going up a hill, then I hit the OD off button until I hit the downhill side.

My truck is a FX2 Sport. Here is what I noticed coming here on my way to NC. I turned it off but it was scaring me b/c the truck revved a little high. The RPM's were close to 3000 and I was doing about 80, is this normal? but once I switched o/d on the rpms would drop. I just want to make sure that I dont damage anything.

your not going to damage anything, if it will pull the hill in over drive, leave it in over drive.

It's not whether it's running in 3rd or OD that should be your concern - it's whether the converter is locked up or not. When the converter is unlocked, the tranny will run hotter.

If you are towing a light enough load where you can safely do 80 mph, leave it in OD. If you are towing heavy, SLOW DOWN!

ok thanks. I just have a less than 400lbs atv in the bed and a less than 400lbs atv on a 290lb trailer. Would you guys consider this light. I guess you will compared to what I've heard some of you guys towing. So I guess in this case I can leave it on OD. Is their an issue if I switch back and forth?

That is a very light load. I've loaded and towed heavier with my V6 stick and it's essentially almost felt like there's nothing back there. There is absolutely no reason to be screaming down the highway at 3000 rpm with that light a load.
