05 Starting problem

Hey everyone.

Been notcing ann odd problem with my truck. Sometimes when I hop in, it takes an extra long crank to get the engine to catch. This doesn't happen everytime, but enough to make me wonder if something is wrong.

The cranking speed sounds fine and normal, it just doesn't seem to want to turn over for a bit longer than normal. My first thought was that it could possibly be the quality of fuel I was running on. It was from a cheap no-namke gas-station. Ran it down to a quater of a tank, and just yesterday filled it up at mobile to see if its going to make a difference. I should know by the end of today if that is the problem.

Anyone have any other ideas or things I should check out/clean/ect?

Thanks!

No sir,

The truck only has 25,000 miles on it, but I'm not to sure of the intervals between switching the fuel filter.

I can say though that I did just go out for lunch from work, and it started right up. I'm starting to agree with my first thought that it was the cheap fuel.

You know, the fuel filter should be fine...Gas stations now usually have filters on their pumps. Unless of course the Ford gas tank is rusting inside. Shoot most modern cars run an easy 100k without changing the fuel filter. That is stuff from 20 years ago...or you live in a third world country.

You know, I think I'll just spend the $10 every 15k and change it.

I've seen far too many folks pourin' crap out of the removed filter (including myself) to take that chance.

Aging infrastructure, distrust of gas station tank quality / filtration, a 5 minute/$10 job approx once per year.... jeez.

I think I am going to change the fuel filter anyway just in case,

But ever since I've filled up with the mobil gas it hasn't had this problem. So I'm definatly thinking it was just the cheap quality of fuel from the no-name place.

Recommended interval on fuel filter is 30k. I would never say it isnt worth doing sooner, especially if using fuel form different and no-name places. Especially avoid places that gas is much cheaper than everyone else's. Its cheaper for a reason.

Do a search on the subject as suggested and see what runs out of those things with just 25,000 or so miles. I remember the junk Stealth poured out of his. I will always change mine at 15,000. Too easy and too inexpensive to not do it. Hard to believe though, that the dealer charges $70 for the fuel filter change, but charges only $28 for an oil change.
