I have a 2000 extcab 5.4 automatic with about 96000 on it. In the past two weeks I have had new plugs, fuel filter, air filter, sido exhaust, new tires, Mobil 1 oil change, speedo recalibrated, and OD wires fixed. Truck was running great and then about 2 days ago I noticed at high way speed 55 and up if I let of the gas for a couple of seconds like when coming up to a stop the motor either cuts out of the transmission drops out of gear the RPM's drop completly the truck gives a big jerk and then if I step back on the gas it kicks really hard and then runs fine. Again I have only noticed this when it is 55 or above. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Be more detailed about the "OD wires getting fixed". What was wrong to start with and what was done to correct the problem? Are you talking about overdrive problem?

 

The OD problem was my Overdrive would work fine but the switch on the end of the gear switch to override the overdrive would not work. The dealer said that the wires were chafed at the steering colum so they fixed them and replaced the fuse. I am assumeing that they just patched the wires that are there becasue they did not run new wires for it.

 

You may be experiencing the PCM relearning. That OD cutoff switch wire is a short harness and they most likely did replace it. That switch doesn't sound to me like anything that will possibly create the issue you describe.

My 2000 5.4 does something similar every time I totally reset the PCM. About one day of the long drives I have to make it goes away and never comes back until the next time.

It is the OD kicking out early or that is what it feels like to me.
