Performance COP value?

Hello everyone,

A quick search did not produce the type of information I was looking for so I will toss my question out to the group (and take my beating if this has already been discussed to death).

I will be replacing the plugs on my 5.4 within the next few weeks. While I am at it I thought I would go ahead and replace all the COPs at the same time. I had planned to buy a set from Global Automotive, but I was on the Summit Racing website and ran across Summit COPs. They make the following claim:

"Our direct replacement coil-on-plug ignition coils increase power to the spark plug by over 400 percent compared with stock coils. They have a protector ring that virtually eliminates resistance and RMI/EMI interference, plus a solid stainless connector cable with a stainless snap-lock spark plug connector for a secure connection."

My question is whether there is any tangible benefit for spending the extra $ for "performance COPs" versus OEM replacements? Thanks.

That's a hard question to answer at this point. So far the ebay COPs have the best record here. Motoblues are prolly the best upgrade as far as COP's right now. With no problems to date, but there fairly new on the market. There also not that bad on price.

One user so far had a bad experiance with Accel Cop's, I think he received 3 or 4 bad ones.

I would prolly go with the Motoblues right now for an upgrade - Theres a few users here that are running them without problems.

I haven't heard no info on summits. Summit usually sells good stuff tho.

How much are they?

Thanks for the info Jbrew. I was looking at Global Automotive sets b/c of your endorsement anyway.

Summit wants $296 for a set of 8. I will look into the Motoblues and see how they compare on price.

Any idea if there really is a noticeable performance difference?

i bought the motercraft cops from globle that i think jbrew had put a link to and i put them on sunday, they work great for me. i pulled the rubber boot off the old coils to look at them and 5 of them were dirty. hard to belive that i have 01 77,000 miles and they were that bad. now i think i need to do that to my 02.

Buy the motoblue upgraded COP connector/boot deal for $89 if you get the standard COP's. The quality is great, much heavier duty. After I got my plugs and saw the cheap ball point pen type spring that connects the coil to the plug, I bought the upgraded connectors real fast. Don't know if they add any extra HP but they certainly won't hurt, they are heavy duty and very nice! Just looking at them makes me feel better over that cheap stock springy thing......
