03 F150 O2 Sensor

If this is the wrong forum I apologize (new here). I have a 03 F150 (V8 5.4). I have two questions.

1) Bank 1 is running too rich. I got an O2 sensor to replace it, but I am unsure of where it needs to go exactly.

2) Did Chilton take 03 off? I can't find an 03 F150 Chilton anywhere. What is an equivalent manual to Chilton that came out for my 03?

1) I am assuming Bank 1 is the driver side bank of pistons, but in either case, your upstream O2 sensor on either bank will mount on your catalytic pipe right after where that pipe bolts onto your headers. I have an 03 as well, and you will need the O2 sensor socket to take the sensor off

2) Get the Service manual from Ford, I think beginning with the 03 it was on dvd only. That is what I have

What is the code you got? It may not be the 02 sensor, there could be other problems that will show a rich condition at the 02 sensor. The PCM is probably compensating for something else.

Troubleshooting P0172

Definition
Fuel trim bank one condition

Probable Causes
1 - If Bank one and two codes set together suspect fuel pressure or MAF sensor
2 - Oxygen sensor defective
3 - Ignition misfire
4 - Fuel injector problem.

I was told that the passage side was Bank one
Also that Plug one is always bank one
and if you look across the engine from passenger side to driver side one head will be farther to the front thats bank one

That's not an O2 - O2 codes are P0161 and below. You have a LEAN code.

Most likley a vac leak - it could be a dirty MAF, but I doubt it since just one side is lean . You have a hose leaking..

1-4 that you have listed above are posibilities but highly unlikley..

Search this forum if you can't accept the problem , you will here the same thing - it's usually the hose from the PCV that runs behind the manifold..

check the PCV hose on the passenger valve cover to the back of the intake. theses are common to split and leak.

Yea, one of the possible causes for code P0172 is blocked intake. This is a too rich problem.

That's right , I made a mistake, I still get those two mixed up - my bad. Thanx for straitening that out torkum..

Quintin gave me hell last time I did that

A dirty filter will throw that one , that's right

A code P0172 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

The MAF Sensor is dirty or faulty. The use of "oiled" air filters (K&N, etc.) can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled
There could be a vacuum leak.
There could be a fuel pressure or delivery problem

True , except for a vac leak contributing to the prob. There's to much vac.

Theres no telling what a dirty MAF is going thro for code. The way I can tell it's the MAF is that the IAC will cut the idle way down @ start - below 700 RPM's..That's usually a dirty MAF for sure , but then again it doesn't always react that way ..

remember, the "RICH" or "LEAN" in the text description is referring to the TRIM value being used.

im getting confused. i'm going to bed.

I think I know what your saying - rich can sort of mean lean depending how your looking at it and how the O2's are seeing and reporting.

I see rich as to much fuel.. Yea , I know what your saying tho..

Going to bed - You'll be going thru this in your sleep

So before I replace the O2 sensor I bought you all think I should check the air filter? I am fairly certain nothing is leaking, as I have yet to see anything under the truck, however I will check some of the hoses.

The 1-4 I listed were off the print out Autozone gave me. They also suggested it was the O2 sensor.
