Not much power

I have a 06 fx4 scab with a 5.4. I bought the truck new and it has 3000 miles on it. The only problem that I have with it is it feels very weak on the highway. It doesn't take much of an incline at all to make it shift out of OD. It is also very slow off the line. I did trade a highly modified and juiced 02 Camaro SS in on it, so this could be the problem, but it just seems like it should have more power. It doesn't even feel like it would be able to pull larger tires. Is this normal?

A tuner will give you what you are looking for. The engine is there it just needs to be released. Remember the factory has EPA guidelines they are trying to please first.

Right!! ^^^^

Helping it to breath a bit better with a Cold Air Intake and a good Catback system would benefit as well..

There really undertuned from the factory.

I have a new F-150 with the 5.4 auto and 3.55 LS gears and I feel just the opposite about the power. My old truck was a 1994 with a 4.9 I6 so that may be the reason. I went from 145 hp to 300 hp so I will be good for a while. On a side note, I towed my boat that weighs in at 2660 lb and it only shifted out of overdrive one time and I expected it when it did it. My truck also speeds. You just don’t feel that you are going as fast as you are

So, you are expecting the same 'snap' from a stock, 4x4, #5500+ 'brick' as you had from a modified SS Camaro that weighs what.... Maybe #3000 and is shaped like a bullet???

The new F150's have that 'fly by wire' setup for the throttle (there is no actual throttle cable!) and while I've not driven one yet, I hear they 'lag' a little....

What was the reason to trade a SS for a 4x4 F150?? Do you want to tow or haul stuff or go off road or go fast??

I had a stock '86 5.0 GT with a 5 speed and that thing was quick as snot, even with a 3.08 rear end... But, I traded it in on my current 'brick' because I needed something to haul and tow with... Sure, I wish I still had the GT, but I couldn't keep both... You can't compare the two in terms of 'off the line' power, but when I need to plop a ton of stuff in the bed or tow my TT, I'm glad I have the truck...

If you wanted a 'performance' F150, you should have gotten a Lightning.... It would blow your SS off the road and then it could have towed it home!

I got it because I was tired of driving the car all the time. The SS was also a money pot, and insurance was ridiculous. I like my truck, but it just doesn't seem right. I think I'm gonna test drive another one and see if it feels the same. And lightnings are not that fast when you keep them street legal and on pump gas.

Humm.... Well, your 'seat O the pants' meter might still be set for the SS, so give it a little bit.....

What kind of MPG's are you getting? You should be getting around 16+ or so on the hwy and a little less in the city..

Could be that it's still pretty 'tight'... With only 3k miles on it, it ain't even got it's 'baby' teeth yet...

Open up the exhaust and intake and you should feel a little more 'snap'...

One of my daughters friends has an old LX 5.0 stang 4 on floor. It's pretty beat, but it's a fun little car to drive, strong as hell motor, sounds pretty mean - I think it's a 87, maybe it's older .

Damn things just a go- cart with a motor .. However, It will smoke my truck

What's with comparing a SS to a truck anyway ? It's a truck.

I think this guy probably has it right. I'm not comparing the two. I think its just gonna take a little while to get used to something normal.

there all right... the ss does not compare to a truck... but the truck does have a lot of potential... i like putting my foot into it too.... the edge evolution is something worth looking into.... not only do you get more power... but ive been getting better mileage while keeping my foot in it.... it has 3 levels economy, towing, and all out performance.... the performance is what i set mine to.. and once you tweek it its good to go.... and bigger tires are no problem... you can adjust for them so that the shift points arent screwed up...

yeh with the higher compression rati to make them regular unleaded friendly they detuned em a bit. and really make about 250fwhp. most of them dyno right around 200hp.
