I had to change my htr core last year, luck would have it a friend works on ambulances and knows how to take dash apart, while he worked dash, i worked under hood installed new hose's on both core and rad flushed everything lost some dash lights but it only took us about 4 hrs

heater cores usally leak into cab, if it's leaking under hood it mght only need new hose's since the seal might be all thats leaking

Thro them left over screws on top of the dash - maybe they'll end up in the right places

there is a little adjuster gear that is connected to a bright with bracket under the steering wheel and depending on which way you turn it it will adjust ur gear selector
I had the same problem after i did my heater core, and it took some smart thing to figure this little problem out!

Its not that bad of a job. Almost the same as the blend door. Takes about 6-7 hours. look in the hvac section and you will find a set of instructions making it easy. Get a blend door repair/replace kit at the same time as they start to fail after 7 years, mine lasted 9.
Do it before winter sets in, you will get cold!
