Cold Start Problem

My '99 F-150 XLT Supercab has recently begun to exhibit a random cold starting problem. I have just over 161,000 miles on the truck and, occasionally during a cold start, the engine will turn over and immediately die. When it happens (about once every week or two), I re-start and hold the gas to about 1500 revs for 20-30 seconds. When I release the gas, the engine then drops down to normal idle speed and all is well.

I've read for OBD-II codes and nothing was evident.

In the past eight weeks, I've run about three tanks of gas with Seafoam added through the engine and that seems to have helped. At least, it seems to have reduced the frequency of occurrence. Any clues regarding what else might be contributing to the cold start problem?

you need to do two things... have your injectors cleaned by a garage that can clean them (in other words has a bottle that they hook up to shop air, fill the bottle with a heavy duty (not store bought crap to put in the fuel tank but something like BG's fuel crap that's rather pricey) kerosene mix, trip the inertia switch, and run the solution through your engine

And check your fuel pressure... you might have a problem with your pressure... either a really clogged fuel filter or a pump that's telling you in it's own way it's getting ready to go to that pump heaven in the sky.
