Truck Specs

Hi everyone. I'm new here and to the Ford brand. I recently purchased a very well maintained 1986 F150 Stepside with a 300ci 4.9L I6 with a 4-speed transmission. I was wondering if anyone knew the horsepower and torque ratings for this vehicle. I believe pretty much everything on it is stock so estimating horsepower won't be necessary. Thank you for your time!

I would try to google that one for a possible fast answer. Other than that - theres a few on here that might have your specs.

Heres a spec page from another site - but yours won't be on there ..

I don't know what it was in 1986, but the last of the breed in 1996 was 145 hp and 265 ft/lb.

Thanks guys. I have a funny feeling its somewhere pretty close to the 145 mark. Maybe its time for me to upgrade to a HO Windsor to satisfy my horsepower wants. Of course that means I'll have to give up the reliability of the I6.

What do you plan to do with the truck? Think about it - the old I6 has low end grunt like nothing else except a diesel or a big block (think 460), without the weight - and with that granny low you can pull anything. The only reason to put a small block V8 in there would be for acceleration and if you don't load it down heavy or tow a heavy trailer.

I would keep the 6. That is one of the best engines ever made. You want more hp? Look up cliford performance... they make cams, headers, 4bbl intakes and good looking dress up parts for that engine. You can make that engine move.. and what a sleeper you would have.

You KNOW that engine was built to last when they use a direct gear driven cam instead of using a chain or belt. There are a lot of pickups and vans still chugging around with it with tons of miles on them.

I don't think even the EFI numbers were that high. The carb I6 was closer to 85hp & 100 lb-ft. But it's moot now - that thing has so many miles & years on it that it's FAAAAAR out-of-spec. If it was rebuilt, it could be higher, but it's most likely lower. Who cares, though? If it does what you want, why worry about the numbers? My truck is MUCH heavier and I can set the cruise over 100mph. It takes a while to get up there, but it'll do it for hours.

My best guess is ~350Kmi on the engine, and it has never been open for any reason.

Oooooo baby, sounds like a sweet truck I would get.

Is the door jam code sticker still readable? What does it say for under trans?
