A 5.4 isn't even breathing hard at 100 mph, even in a big slug truck.

well shouldn't really try to compete with them types. it's a truck. you maybe able to keep up with them. but you won't be able to manuever or brake like them, if situation arises. just brake check them if they get close, and since you're bigger they'll go around you. they would be afraid to mess up their german technology.
though might i suggest taking a spin the nurburgring, that way you can get all the speed out of your system.

I remember those good old day's when I spent 4 years in Germany AaaaHhh the beer, food and driving

Doing 130mph the first week I was there and I thought I was billy badass until some Turbo VW past me like I was standing still. Almost blew me off the autobahn

Do you ever find yourself missing an exit cause your trying to past everybody in sight and can't get back over to exit, then have to haul butt miles up the autobahn just to turn around then haul butt again just to make it to work on time

Never try to past the Polize with a lollipop cause his buddies up the road will be waitting for you in the middle of the road with a few machine guns pointed at you.

Make sure the tire's are rated for the speed your driving cause I've peeled a few tire treads off resulting in a uncommand lane change.

thanks alot guys, i do not plan to drive it at it´s limit constantly but still good to know that the motor and driveshaft be able to. ford disigned it to haul heavy loads, not to race it on the autobahn, but i guess something between 100 and 110 should be a good speed. i just replaced the original bfgoodrich with goodyear wrangler 265/60R18 maybe not the best tires, but they are not very noisy and so far i think they will do. over here it´s not very common to have all season tires. almost everybody has a set of summer and a set of wintertires. the axle is a ls 3.73 i think (H9) correct me if i´m wrong. i always use premium fuel since the recomended 87 octane is not to find in germany. talking about fuel, the liter price is about 1,35 euro (like the beer ). that´s ~ 6,50dollar per gallon. i would love to do some mods to the engine but since the fordguys here don´t know the f150 i would be on my own if something gets messed up (not to talk about normal maintenance like the first sparkplug change).

At 100 it is more than likely going to be in 3rd, not OD, and well over 3000rpm. I have been at 100 in my truck, and with wind resistance, it will not stay in OD. Something meant for high speed will be in 5th or OD and below 3000.

H9 is a 3.55 LS.

Have you topped it out yet? Yours may be different but my limiter kicks in at 96.

The biggest problem is the braking at that speed. Can't tell you how many times I came over the top of a rise on the Autobahn just to see a traffic jam ahead. You know when your eye's get as big as mellons when you hit the brakes as hard as you can just to barely stop in time from hitting the car in front of you. Then you look in your rear mirror hoping the guy behind you does the same thing. I was in a car and I don't think a new F150 would have much of a chance. My 89 had better brakes.

Your truck must attrack alot of attention over there. My car got broken into a few times when they see that odd ball US style plate. They think we must be rich or something like when the 4 Marks equal a US dollar. Back then we were rich.

thanks glc, 3.55 makes probably more sence, i´ll barely ever haul heavy loads or a trailer. i never had it run into the limiter, but after all i read here i´m going to try as soon as morning traffic allows it .

RacingJake, your right, happened a couple of times to me, guess you got to learn from it and keep distance. in the afternoon traffic its immpossible anyway to go faster than 60 or 70 but in the early morning or on sundays when comercial trucks are not allowed to drive it´s fun!
so far only once somebody messed with my truck, ripping off the bed-cover. didn´t find more than my (heavy) toolbox and left it there. luckly the cover mostly snapped open, so the damage was very minor. these things are expensive here and you have to wait weeks to have one shipped, like any other part .

Are you in the Military, I was station at Zweibrucken AB from 86 to 90 before all the base closures. Not to far from Ramstein or K-town.

That was one heck of a time back then, we got a few German friends that wish that wall went back up but it must be alot better now. I remember being at Ramstein when the Italian aerobatic team crash. We just left the beer tent and 30 mins later all hell broke loose.

Had a good time in Munchen too, stay at Erding ?? German Air Force base a few times. I like when you make rank there cause you can't leave the table until yoiu finish off the 3 L glass. You got to watch out for those German pilot's cause they like to taxi their jet's around 60 mph's. I was hauling butt on flightline and he was passing me

Being marrired to an American do they still tax all you stuff at home. The room tax sure doesn't make any sence.

I had a VW Rabbit just like the Golf and boy did I run the heck out of it. I finnally blew it up on the A6 Autobahn oneday. For some strange reason she was running faster than ever before until piece's were showing up in my rear view mirror. Coasted for a few miles until I reach a town then caught the train to Zwei. You guys got one heck of a public transportation system.

Picked up a used motor from the Ramstein junkyard for 75 bucks and I was back on the road. Also had a 82 Dodge charger.

Don't you worry about getting stuck on some of those's narrow roads

Rev Limiter

I do agree that you don't really want to sustain operation over 4k. Occasional downshifts and bursts won't hurt it, with an automatic in drive it will take care of itself unless you have done chip mods.
The redline is more like 5000. YOu are not supposed to rev the stock torque converter over 5400 RPM in these vehicles.

Then I assume the rev limiter will take care of this?
