500hp 460 and a np 4 speed tranny

I have a new process 4 speed standard transmission and a new process 205 transfer case out of a 1979 ford i am curious if it can handle a 500hp Big Block or what else would be a better deal does not have to be standard thanks

The E4OD can certainly handle that much torque, but do you ever plan to actually put that much thru it? Are you going to be towing a 10,000 lb trailer, or mud-bogging with 44" tires?

Steve, he's asking about a stick, not a E4OD.

I do plan on running 44's but not boggers, the plan for the truck is to do a lot of playing in small swamps and tug o wars with slicks not the 44's i am not a person that is heavy on the gas pedal

Then why do you need 500hp??

If you want to do all those kinds of things with your toy, then you are bound to break something?? Ain't no fun if you don't take it to the extreme, right??

I say if you want to play like that, then you have to be able to pay for it too!

I know you don't want to be breaking parts and all, but with a 500 hp BB and a stock 4 speed, somethings gotta give......

Might just be a U joint if you're lucky!

I'm not sure if you can rebuild the NP's with beefier parts or not?? Maybe, but I'll bet it'll be some $$. An auto might be a bit easier on the rest of the drive tran, but they ain't cheap either...

I think that no matter what you do, with that kind of power, you'll be bustin' parts right and left....

Good luck and have fun!

Mitch

Where are you getting those numbers? Did you dyno the bare engine?

the NP will handle that power easily. Just don't dump the clutch.. you will break u joints and other things.. like axles......

but only 500 hp out of a 460??? your just getting warmed up!!

what cam and carberation are you using? seems to me your torque should be a lot higher than that... maybe you need to do a dyno tune to get the jetting and timing right. I think you should be good for at least 40 ft lbs more torque with that hp number.

Not sure about the NP, but a built C6 will take the power. The current Big Foot monster truck uses a C6 that has been comletely built to take the 1500hp that its motor puts out.

This is not the first time this has been brought up and is starting to bother me but thank you. My friend is not jerkin me around the test resaults were saved on the computer gave a print out and we had a really hard time believe'in that it was the same as the web site and he played with the timing a bit but not much. but i guess what can i say?. Its one of those things that are almost impossable to stumble across but some times do occure, Latter in the year the motor will make its way into the truck and will get dyno'ed once again but at the rear wheels. is it better to dyno out of the truck?

JUST WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THIS SET UP IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING FOR #'S RELIABLY AND WHAT WOULD I HAVE TO CHANGE I AM BEING TOLD I WILL BE FINE WITH STOCK RODS IS THIS SO HOW LONG TILL A PROBLEM OCCURES AND WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD RUTE TO TAKE THANKS FOR THE REPLYS.
PERFORMER RPM CAM
PERFORMER RPM INTAKE
PERFORMER RPM HEADS
DEAMON 800CFM CARB
MSD DISTRIBUTOR
KB PISTONS .040 OVER
STOCK CRANK NEW FOUND AT A MARINA
STOCK RODS

What are the pros and cons of a C6 trans and a E40D witch would make more sence for my aplication i only need 2 or 3 gears
