Advise = Sprark plug issue.

I have an '05 5.4L, 11,000 miles. Rebuilt title = no warranty.

I know there are issues pertaining to getting the factory spark plugs out to replace with ones that shouldn't break off in the head.

My mechanic said I should do this right away (replace)--he wont touch it. He's quite angry at FMC for not issuing a service bulletin or recall being he owns an F-150 himself. He's broken off 3 plugs himself with 60k on his truck.

What should I do? I don't have the money to have the dealership pull the heads should the plugs break off.

Thanks....

You need to look into another mechanic, it is odd he would rather have you do it than do it himself. They have TSB's on the internet about how to do it correctly to reduce the chances of breaking them.

do a search in the 04-present forum. There are several discussions in there that relate to this. A new one seems to pop up about once a month. Like said there is a TSB for this and Ford service departments also have a tool to extract broken plugs without taking the heads off. I'm pretty sure the tools is not availiable to the general public.

OK cool thanks fellas. My mechanic told me there was no TSB.

If there is indeed a TSB, then what should the dealership do for me?

The dealership changed mine, broke the 2 against the firewall off but used the removal tool and only charge me an additional hour labor to get them out. They won't eat all of the cost of the labor to get them out but he did only charge me for half the time, at least that is what he said.
