Question new guy

i have a 99 f150---stock run of the mill,etc.--- has 4.6 auto....extended cab 4 wheel drive-- starter locked up. i took out the 2 bolts plus the stud for battery wire... does anyone know how many bolts hold it in.. kind of new at these new conversion motors?

Looks like just 2 thought there were 3 must be on the 5.4.

My 2000 4.6 has 3 bolts that hold the starter in.

there is 3 bolts. that third is a pain in the a$$. youll need a bunch of extensions. have to take that one out by feel.

Have fun. When i pulled my starter out the first time( i bought mine used) it only had two in it. I later found out why. It still only has two!

Third one is easy if you pull the front tire off and go in thru the fender well... You will still need an extension and a universal, but it's so much easier that way! When you put the new starter in, put this top one in first and it's a piece of cake!

Yeah , That's what I do to Mitch ... It would be biatch trying to get that from underneath. I slid the seven or eight inch extension with a 13mm on the end through the fenderwell and on the bolt. I attached the air ratchet from under the truck . But yeah , you have to that perfect extension length that leaves you enough room to get the ratchet on there.
