wrong radiator
wrong radiator
OK guys I got under the truck today to take some measurements on the radiator and noticed it was a single core. WTF-so much for the towing package! I have everything else for the towing package but the right radiator. My gauge never shows hot, but it never has moved anyway(wonder if its broke?). Any ways, I did a search and see that allot of people have had this problem and but their posts date back around 2001. It is now 2007. What chances do I have in getting this BS fixed?
I went to the dealer as soon as I saw this and they had never heard of this before. I wanted to look at a spec book to see what it should have come with but they couldn't find one for a 2000 model. Is there any place on the internet that has these specs. Im about to put on some efans and am going to mount them to the radiator with some aluminum flat strap and was going to pull the radiator anyway. If they will just give me the right radiator I will be happy to install it myself.
Will the correct 2 core radiator bolt right up?
How much hell am I looking at dealing with the dealers?
Any tricks of the trade to look out for when they give me ****?
Thanks guys

i bought my truck used and decided to put in a new 2 core radiator for towing. think it was autopartswarehouse.com for about 175 shipped to my door in 2 days.
Ive read the posts about ford pullin off that stunt with the radiators not installed in trucks with towing packages.
The radiator i got was a visteon factory replacement and bolted right in. easy install.
Good luck in your quest!!!!

I had the same deal, only I found out the hard way after it leaked. The replacement from Ford was thicker by twice as much and $222 +TAX and again lasted a year. I'm on my 3rd but it's holding. I had the tow package and all that b/s too for a glorified condenser thickness rad, go figure. I'd find out because guys around here were getting them replaced free.
I took the money (150 bucks) and kept my single row. Never had a single overheating problem with it and now have over 108K miles on it. The single row/two row issue was beat to death here back when it was first found. Search and you will see. The single is good enough for anything you can tow with the truck. Visteon tested it to the full capacity rating of the truck and it worked. The only reason Ford offered a settlement was because their brochure said a 2 row was installed when it wasn't.
Don't worry about it. I have the complete tow package.

Im sure the single row may be good enough for some people and that is fine. But when I pay extra money for a tow package and dont receive what I was promised I feel that ford is not holding up there end of the bargain. I held mine up by paying them for a certain truck. I think they should be held accountable for their mistakes. Do you think ford would let me slide if I didnt pay them all of their money?

As I said Ford and Visteon showed that the new design single core was as good as the old 2 row. It was a redesign, not just the old single row stuck in new trucks.

Oh well, my single took a dump after 3 yrs, the 2 row replacement lasted a year, then that warrantied replacement is still going strong. Never hurts to have more cooling capacity, competition would think so too!
Well, I went by the Ford house today and asked some questions. They just shrugged, gave me a dumb look and said "I dont know what to do". So needless to say Im a little pissed. I also told them that all I want is the radiator and I will install it myself, but they said it would cost 250$. I feel that if I paid a premium for a towing package when I bought it regardless if it was used or not, they should help me out. But now Im trying to find a district number or customer complaint number to call or write a letter to. And also if someone has a spec sheet website I would love to get that too.
Sorry for Bitching everyone.

Well I have a 2004 F150 and I sprung a leak due to my electronic fans I installed a couple months ago.
I called the dealer, they quoted me $265 for the super cooling radiator or whatever they called it.....
So I called my local ford junkyard, got a very lightly used standard cooling radiator and installed with no problem.
I know how you feel. You paid for the super radiator and you got a standard duty. I would call and write a letter as you plan to do, it will make you feel better
