fuel sending unit

ran my truck by the dealership to have a code ran today. they tell me that the fuel sending unit has a buildup of sulfur on it, and to try running a few bottles of techron through it. i use techron with every tank, so it looks like i may have to have it replaced. has anyone had exp. getting this done, i.e. price, time in the shop, etc?

Wonder how they determined that, or is it from experience?
Any additive would need to have ingredence that attacks the sulfur, so select carefully.
After it is dissolved, it is still in the fuel.
If found to be the problem, you need to consider getting fuel from another source if you can prove were it came from and it may be legallly actionable.
Down in southern states, this has already been found and addressed in a legal manner, a couple years ago.
I believe it is now law that fuel has to be low sulfur to run in the new trucks.

they didnt tell me the code, but told me that the code indicated fuel sending unit error. based on experience with other trucks along with info from ford, the dealer believed that sulfur was the prob. i only use chevron, but since katrina, evidently this has been a prob. with fuels down here.

There is a tsb out there relating to this issue, the first step is to add the Techron, and then see if it goes away or not, then they will have to put a sending unit in it... Or thats the way i have to do em, more hoops from the Ford motor corporation.......
