No Power Steering

I just replaced the power steering box in my '97 F150. Filled it with fluid and tried it out. Steers VERY hard, almost like there is no power steering at all. It is FULL of power steering fluid. Would the pump make any noises if it was bad? Thanks.

I hate to ask the stupid question but did you put the belt back on. I know that i have forgot it before when doing the same thing. Other than that you might want to try and support your front end so that the tires are off of the ground and turn the sterring wheel from one end to the other. Working that fluid down in the lines and hopefully getting any air out of it. You cana do this while its on the ground but its harder to turn the wheel and im not sure but the load might hurt something.

Hey twin, thanks for the response. I didn't have to take the belt off to replace the steering box. I didn't replace the pump. It is all set now though. It took quite a bit more fluid then I anticipated. Peace\/
