Engine oil level

2003 F150 Supercrew FX4 (113,000 miles) Why does the Ford manual say that you should not add oil only unless it is below minimum? I decided to check my oil today after finding a possible rear main seal leak, and found the oil level to be between half full and minimum. The leak is not enough to drip on the ground, but the area around the inspection hole for the torque converter was oily as was the starter. I park in the same place everyday and I have never had any oil on the ground, but I have also never really checked my oil level. Last oil change 1,500 miles ago. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :bows:

I would check it right after it gets changed next time and note the oil level on the dipstick. It may have been at that level for the last 1500 miles.

Liston to the book - I have two F 150's and they both call for 6 quarts. That reads between half and 3/4 on the dipstick when changed.

DON'T OVERFILL

You'll blow the gaskets or seals..

that makes me feel better. I'll monitor it for the next week or so. I have a BMW bike where "full" on oil level is actually half full. Anything more than that and it burns it off. Thanks guys.

I scribed a mark on my dipstick in the cross hatch area after changing the oil and filter

My family has 4 Ford vehicles from a 2000 to a 2006 and on all of them when you change the oil and add the specified amount the level is midway between the min and max on the dipstick.
