Sudden Acceleration 4.6L V-8

I have a new F-150 with a little over 1200 miles on it.

Last night I was coasting up to a stoplight with my foot off of the accelerator pedal. When I began to brake, the engine accelerated to the point that I had to slam on the brakes to keep from hitting the guy in front of me, throw it into neutral, and turn it off. I then re-started, and everything was fine.

Has anyone else had, or heard of this problem? I sure didn't enjoy it, and would like to not repeat it.

I think that's how the new anti-lock braking system works.

Seriously though, every now and then, when trying to apply the brakes, I accidentally will press on both the the braken and gas pedals at the same time (with the same foot). To me, it seems like the distance between the 2 pedals is a little off...

But if you're sure that isn't your situation, and if you believe that it was in-fact a mechanical malfunction, then you need to report it to the NHTSA. A problem like that could easilly lead to a serious accident and/or death.

Yup... my 2006 did that once when I first got it. Had about 10k miles on it. I was stopped in traffic and all of a sudden the engine just rev'ed. I pressed even harder on the brake to avoid taking off into the car stopped in front of me. Never happened again.

I do the same thing sometimes...especially if Im trying to brake in a hurry to avoid something. Not the best when I NEED to stop and Im on the gas at the same time

I have heard more than a few stories of these trucks just taking off like that though. Has to be some quirks in this new p.o.s electronic throttle control. I remember one happening of this even made the news somewhere.

Was your air conditioner on? My girlfriends mustang does that all the time when her a/c is on. Her rpm gauge jumps and has alot of sudden acceleration when stopped.

Amen. I would give anything to have my right foot connected directly to my TB, like my 99 was.
