mustang intake manifold
mustang intake manifold
i was wondering if an aftermarket hi flow manifold for the 4.6 mustang would fit on my 02 4.6, as far as hood clearance and stuff.
also this might be a dumb question but is the 4.6 281cu's or 289?

The mustang intakes are direct bolt ons, but you'll be sacrificing torque. The intake on the truck is what gives it the torque, the heads and cams are the same as on the mustang, at least on 02 and later trucks.
this is what you really want, i know cause i want one to http://www.rpmoutlet.com/musv8dynotune.htm
never thought about the torque... i just want my baby to have a little more bite to her bark...what if i polish the stock manifold and hook up a bigger throttle body with some bigger injectors...i dont want to completely sacrifice my mpg tho
That's really all that seperates the truck motor from the mustang motor, the torque. Trucks are made for more towing and pulling, therefore their motors are made to produce more torque. That's accomplished with the intake manifold. I'm not sure how, but everything else is the same as the mustang. I had to replace the heads on my 02 truck and I put heads from an 03 mustang on it, they had the same casting numbers, camshafts, the whole nine yards. The intake on our trucks in taller than on the mustang, that's the only thing I can come up with. But polishing it and adding a bigger throttle body and injectors does sound like a good way to go.
