depends, do you lots of offroading?? in sandy conditions etc ... if not every 20k sounds about right. every oil change ill give it a few blasts with the air compressor.

 

Visually check it, change it when dirty.

 

Just on the road... city and highway... no offroad... no extensive idling either.

Then I think 20k is good for me.

50% black, eh? ok... sounds good. I know I read someplace that it needed to be changed like every 10k no matter what.

Because if it is 10k, then my engine must be a vacuum cleaner or something.

 

yeh says all that in the manual. but keep in mind ford knows they can make more money selling parts then selling their vehicles. so they set the matinance scheduel to reflect it.

 

As needed. I don't do mine on a schedule, whenever it needs it, I replace it.

 

I really don't think it is there motive. They aren't stupid, they know there are other companies that sell replacements. And how about my focus? it has a 150,000 filter with a filter minder to tell when to change it. They aren't making a bunch of money on that one.

 

I agree. When I change my oil, I check the filter. I really do not have a milage for the air filter as I do with the oil and oil filter; I just change when needed.

Why do routine maint anyways?? Most customers dont even KNOW they have a reccomended maint manual in their vehicles to begin with. Let alone DO any of it at the reccomended times by FORD... Especially when they can just run the vehicle into the ground, and then ****/moan/cry at the dealership to get any repair covered under warantee....

Its all win-win, when FORD has to pay, and the customer DOESNT have to prove ANY maint was done to the vehicle!!!!

Then they wonder WHY they are loosing money in the company......

 

For what an air filter costs and the amount of labor involved, I change mine every 10,000 miles.

Dont be cheap. Cleaning out a single use paper filter is a bad idea. You remove alot of dirt from the filter, but you also loosen alot of dirt that is stuck in the filter. The next time you start your engine you get a nice big gulp of dusty air for your trouble.



No body would advocate rinsing out a fuel fliter and re-using it. Nobody would suggest dumping out an oil filter and re-using it. So why an air filter?

Just replace it with a new one. Whats it going to cost you???

I change mine when it gets dirty. Usually around 10K miles.

I do blow them out every oil change. That's blowing from the back (clean side) out. My neighbor likes to vacuum his every 1500 miles.

 

For my truck and just to have a clean air filter in I change mine every 10,000 miles.
