Replace the Autolites first W/MOTORCRAFT OEM double platinum's - Autolites aren't made to Ford spec. They heat up - Then F up...

You can see from the pic, discoloration in comparison with the proper plugs.

Honeywell makes both Autolite & Motorcraft plugs. That's why third party auto suppliers think it's alright to run them in these modulars.

Out of the two, only Motorcraft is manufactured to EXACT Ford specs while the Autolite is not.

Mine went 40 miles before multiple and random misfiring cylinders just about had me on the phone to the wrecker..

Return them and tell them you want the right plugs..MOTORCRAFT dp's

I'll help yuh with your timing when I can get back on here - or PM me .

I am having some troubles with timing on my engine right now. I have a Windsor 4.6L but you can still do the same as I did with your engine but anyway this is what I figured what went wrong: When putting on your timing chains you have to make sure the slack in the chain is on the tensioner side. A buddy of mine did my timing for me and when trying to find the problem I remembered checking the slack in the chain and know it was on the tension side of the chain. What is happening when you do this is that the crank is pulling on the chain and taking up the slack before your cam moves and thus, putting your engine off time. I only had like a quarter inch slack on the chain but even a 32nd of an inch slack on the wrong side still makes your engine off timing. I think my little error put me out by about 10 degrees or so (thank god it wasn't enough to kiss valves!!!). Thats my only experience with timing hope it helps.

yup the manufacturer specs on the motorcrafts the tolerences are tigheter than those of the autolites. that is what caused the problem with the 3v motors the plugs were breaking appon removal. the tolerences werent to the spec that ford requested them. so it cost that manufacturer loads of money.

I emailed Ford and Honeywell after getting 40 miles out of a set of Autolite plugss .

That' was Honeywell's reply I gave about speccing (if that's what you' ve seen before) - they gave me a # to call - called the number and they gave me another number. That was for a voucher for 10 motorcraft plugs - I told them I had a V8 , but the voucher was for 10 ..?

Oh well that was cool - Fords CSR never replied back to emails.

Autolites [B]ARE NOT[B/] a Ford Motor Co spec plug

Motorcraft Spark plugs are design to Ford spec - not Honeywells - They just make them.

Ford gives them the recipe..

I had a problem setting the timing on my truck. I finally figured out that as the tensioner was pulling the slack out of the chain, it would jump 1/2 to a whole link and throw the timing off. All the marks would line up, but the it would still be off time. Took me three times to finally get it right. I just followed the Haynes book and had some help from jbrew and some guys.

If you guys just used the timing setup tools, you WOULDNT have to do it 3-4-5 times... I mean really, how hard is it??

Webmaser needs to offer "clue cards" on the front page....
