Bogging / Hesitation please help!!!!

2001 Ford F150 4x4 95k miles. When idle the truck seems fine. As soon as i put it in drive and press the gas lightly it hesitates/boggs. shakes the entire truck. what could this be? any suggestions?

I also have a 2002 ford windstar with 78k miles. reading code P0401. I replaced the EGR valve and erased the code. code came back 20 min later. think i need to replace the EGR sensor. I'm not sure though...any suggestions on this?

I like fords but I'm lossing my mind with them....please help...

I'll just post what you'll end up doing/the fix - use the search for the explanation.

Replace all the COP's on the f150 w/DG 508's. That means - Get 8 new coils ( $96 FOR ALL 8) here. -

The Windstar needs a DPFE SENSOR..

This code sucks *****.
Here is what I went through to fix it:
1. Replaced MAF (dont do this till you check the voltage)
2. Replaced the EGR Valve
3. Replaced the EGR Vacuum Regulator
4. Replaced the DPFE Sensor
5. Cleaned the TB ports (under the throttle body, a mechanic will do it for $150)
6. If you have an aftermarket air filter like a K&N make sure it is seated in the factory air housing properly. To get mine to seat and not throw the damn code I have to take the housing out of the truck and install the filter on my bench to insure a good seat.

I would wait on the COPs. P0401 mean insufficient flow

Re read his post , your mixed up.. He's referring to two different vehicles.

401 is simple if you understand whats going on - it has not one thing to do with your ignition , here this may help -

Nothing to do with your MAF or Air Filter.

Why didn't you ask or post a question before replacing/fixing all those unnecessary things?

I would have helped..

I would return it - PO406 = EGR popet valve , so your old ones good.

ALSO - Ford updated the DPFE sensors recently , as far as I know , the updated ones can only be had @ the dealerships . Third party venders don't have them..

I bet you would have! I found this forum right after that whole conundrum of crap I went through. I am friends with the local mechaninc and they get the all data binders for vehicles. He would let me pull the truck in and run thorugh the CDs. It was just the stupid list of things Ford says to check/replace with the 0401. It sucked......
And yes, the whole reading left to right top to bottom. I read too fast. :P
Thanks Jbrew. As always tour knowledge is invaluable. If I am in your neck of the woods we need to hook up and I will take you out to dinner.

JBREW - reason for me not posting the question before the fix is a long story- I brought the van to dealer under extended warranty..dealer said the fix is replacing the EGR Vavle at $230 and was not covered.(gotta love extended warranties).... So I dropped the $70 on the part, free labor (mine) = cheaper fix. Now the wife is telling me that since i cleared the code the second time...it has yet to come back on (knock on wood)...she's driven about 90 miles on the van so far...I'd think it would have come back on by now. so i'm keeping my fingers crossed...

The extent of my knowledge in the mechanic field is as far as an oil change and some replacement parts. how the engine works is amazing to me. i've got no clue. you've provided me with an excellent picture of how all is connected. but i still have no clue what your response is for the fix. you mention it's got nothing to do with the igntion. so after veiwing the pic what exactly would you suggest i do to make sure this problem is resolved? I read other posts about p0401 codes and have seen tons of different so called fixes.

Do you know what size motors you have .

The truck either has a 4.2L V6, 4.6L V8 or 5.4L V8

Windstar ? I'll guess a 3.8L V6

I'm sure my wife would have something to say about that.

The truck doesn't have a check engine light on? does it work? turn the key to run without starting - make sure the check engine light works first.

3.8's the throttle body EGR ports could be clogged. I cleaned a 98 Windstar w/65,000 and they really weren't that bad . The DPFE is most likely your problem - I would say an 80% chance a new one will fix it. Note that this doesn't really effect the way it runs , but your economy will suffer.

There's about a 75 mile window for check engine lights roughly.

DPFE = #4

Check those hoses that plug into the bottom - there's 2 , Check there condition and make sure there not plugged (doubtful)
