Ok Guys, I am in need of a few answers. I have a 2001 XLT F-150, my check engine soon light is on. I was told by the dealership that it was a vacuum hose that was either off, or bad. I believe that he said it was under the plenum, but his estimate to fix it seemed high at almost 100 dollars, surely labor cost isn't that high, because I know a part like that can't be more than 50 bucks. If anyone has any experience with this problem, please let me know. Thanks a million guys!

It's this one - that elbow back by the firewall is most likely leaking , common prob. It plugs in behind the IAC and you can reach it while its running - do it when its cold , its not as hot in there. Move it around , you'll hear of feel it leaking, the idle may change as your moving it around as well.

Probably the PCV hose elbow.
Sounds like they wanted to rebuild your intake manifold, must have had a boat payment due.....

does anyone know what the part number is for the vacuum hoses, and elbows needed to repair this? I would like to order it, and get it fixed. The dealership told me that it would take 5 hours of labor at 90 bucks per hour to fix the leak. No wonder ford gets such low service ratings, thats a bunch of crap.
5 hrs - that cheeses me off - are we missing something here , what are they talking about? You don't have to take anything off but whats getting replaced just abot - and it's not much.
I can reach behind my IAC and unplug that 90 without removing anything but the TB shroud - if that..
They have to be refering to something else , I can't beleive it . I would BBB that dealership..
Maybe 15 minutes for you if you take your time..

they might have found bad o-rings in your plenum.
If you have a 4.2L those orings are always leaking and that hose that you're talking about might/probably is cracked and leaking but if those orings are leaking you'll fix the light, clear the code, and when you least want the light to come back on (ie inspection time or when you're out trying to impress your woman with a finely tuned vehicle) it will because that's what those orings like to do.
5 hours for a hose is excessive but @ ~$100/hr that's still $500 in parts... a hose does not cost $500 no matter what the markup...
Please list what the delearship has quoted you for instead of giving bits and pieces and letting everyone assume that $1000 is a quote for a hose.
so to finish my rant... please do not bash dealerships because they are the ones that will take your truck in when you've screwed it all up with your knowledge and experience and fix it.

you don't by any chance work for a dealership do you? The estimate that was written for me was illegible, so i went back and had them clarify it, the guy there couldn't really read it either, so I may take it somewhere else and have it looked at, after I check for the easy fix. But, you don't really have to be so standoffish. I'm just trying to find a way to fix my problem, for the lowest amount of money, surely you can understand that. Anyway, if it's not just a bad vacuum line, what else could it be?
Assume it's a vacuum leak since it most likely is. Fix that and see if any symptoms persist. They likely won't and your further question is moot.

Yes, I do work for a dealership and my comment was not directed at you... it's directed at the people that assume that dealerships are the devil.
Anyway, I would need information as to what engine you have so that I can tell you what I've seen with vacuum leaks. 171 and 174 is more often than not a vacuum leak but not necessarily a hose... ford built their cars and trucks with crappy intake manifold orings which after a short period of time leak air on cold startups and seal up after the engine is warm. You can fix this yourself as long as you don't drop anything down into your intake valve holes.
