Engine to replace 4.6 ?

I've got an 02 with a 4.6 with an automatic tranny and 4WD, but want a lot more power. The engine in there is working fine and only has 80k miles, but it's weak.

Instead of screwing around with superchargers or turbos, I want to just go straight to more cubes in a more efficient engine.

I want about 400hp, but this 4.6 isn't going there.

What crate engine would you recommend, either with or without a required tranny replacement?

get a 5.4 32 valve V-8 out of a Lincoln Navigator and change the cams and injectors witha good tune and a set of long tube headers you'll be there.

OR

build a 5.4 2 valve, with stage 3 heads, a good cam, huge injectors, headers, etc and you'll be flying, check out neals engine build up

I know you said you don't want a blower, but have you ever driven a blower equiped car. My brother has a Mustang LX with a screw type Kenne Bell. You'd swear it has a built 460 under the hood. The instant boost/torque is perfect for our big heavy trucks.

Also don't confuse efficent with horse power. A blower on your current engine should yeild similar mileage with better power than a stock or slightly built 5.4. All for less money, provided you drive both the same.

A stock Ford crate engine is close to $4000 with wholesale around $3000. You should be able to set up a blower for that kind of money and not have the issues of setting up a built 5.4.

I have driven a blower equipped car, actually. And, I do respect the blower. I'm just afraid of dropping 3-6k on a blower and it not being enough power.

Besides, since starting this thread this morning, I stopped into our local Supercharger shop. )http://avengersuperchargers.com/ is less than a mile from my house.) The specialize in Jeep supercharger kits, installed. He spent an hour and a half and couldn't find an application for the 02 4.6, so installing a blower may not happen anyway.

So, I'd like to get some cubic inches in there, then maybe cram more air in with a blower.

What about something like this in your current engine. It should be cheaper and fix the inherent weaknesses (pistons and at a higher power levels crankshaft) of the modular engines. + you'd be ready to throw some major boost at it with fuel or alcohol injection.

Thanks for the links, guys. That blower on top of the stroker might just do the trick.

Anyone ever put in a Mod engine from the Mustang?

If by "awesome power" you mean 241HP, like you in your sig pic, that's just not going to do it. 241HP doesn't come close to a real definition of "awesome power", unless you just came from a Yugo.

MAc he's got plan to rebuild his current 4.6 using a stroker crank to turn his 4.6 to a 5.1 so he has some real power I may stick my 5.4 on the rollers to see what I am putting down, neal did a 5.4 w/ stage 3 heads, a custom cam, 42# injectors, 255lph fuel pump, built transmission so maybe you just want a build similar to his: http://www.got-pressure.com/yabbse/i...;threadid=3089

I would stay away from that shop. If he cannot find an application he is obviously not up to speed on superchargers. Procharger makes a kit for the 4.6 and 5.4. F-150s. http://www.procharger.com/TRUCK_SUV/truck_suv.shtml
Vortech makes one.
http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...rd+Truck%2FSUV
That took me all of 60 seconds to find them.

As was mentioned Troyer Performance also has one.

In the long run it is much easier to slap on a supercharger for at least 100 more HP. If you keep the 4.6 I would get a roots type as it will increase bottom end torque. We all know the 4.6 lacks that. The two that I linked are centrifugal and do not produce low end torque in stock form.
