Mobil 1 oil filters are excellent. You can easily go 10K on one.

Amsoil makes one of the best oil filters, the Ea series. I just ordered 4 at $12.15 each. Even the smaller version made for Toyota will last a long time.

My MIL lives in Arkansas. Her brother just changed her oil on a 2002 Tundra that was running the Amsoil 0w30 with the Amsoil filter. He changed the oil with 105,700 on the odometer. I put that oil and filter on at 90K before she moved to the lake. He said the oil was not black, was a deep brown and came out like any other oil change he's ever done on his own vehicles when changing at 3K. No one reported any difference in the drive of the truck prior to or after the oil change. And a Toyota filter is about half the size of the nice Ford oil filters.

True, they save you the trouble. Sit at your computer, spend $10 to be a "preferred customer" and place an order online and they will ship it right to your front porch.

If you are really interested in Amsoil, even to give it a try, find a couple of other people interested and split the Pref. Cust. fee. There's about 11 of us in my neighborhood with Ford F150s that split that cost and we tend to make large orders together. The order usually shows up within 3 days at the most, and for us, it is usually by late afternoon the next day or the morning of the second day. Our orders come from Columbus, OH and we are only a 2 hour drive away.

It always works out well because many of us like to have stuff on hand. And since we all take the same gear lube, tranny fluid, etc., it's never a problem to contact each other if we need something immediately and just go get it.

I keep about 2 cases of gear lube handy from Amsoil and/or Royal Purple in addition to the ATF and the rear gear additive. Many of us tow a lot, some do it daily, so we tend to change the stuff every 25K miles or under certain circumstances in which we'd change it sooner.

I do a lot of hunting out west every year in Wyoming, Colorado, Utah. And this year, I'll be hunting Antelope in TX. My axles go under water many times. I travel high in the mountains, sometimes towing trailers.

My gears get new fluids the moment I return, and new ATF about every 15-40 thousand also, depending on what occurred during those miles.

I do not recommend exceeding the Ford recommendations if you are still on warranty.

Many "extended oils" do not meet manufacturer specs do they? I've talked in length with many of them, and it's always the same thing: "we EXCEED the spec, so we cannot advertise that we "meet" it.

I find that to be very odd. Why can't they put Meets OR Exceeds. I don't know.

Anyway, even Motorcraft makes a full synthetic 5w20, so that should make a lot of F150 owners happy. I'd say it is probably just as good if not superior to Mobil 1. I've never been impressed with Mobil 1 until I put the extended performance oil in my friend's minivan (10w30).

Well, after a quick phone call, the Extended Performance DOES meet that Ford spec. The guy I spoke with, (Chris, I think), stated at first that he didn't know why. After some searching, he laughed and said, go ahead and use the EP, it meets spec, I'm looking at it right here, but I have no idea why the label nor website does not reflect it.

Perhaps they will correct this error. I don't know.

The Amsoil 5W20 XL (XLM) and 0W20 100% (ASM) meets or exceeds 930 but the Series 2000 0W30 (TSO) does not - only 929 is listed. I'm going to make an educated guess here - perhaps in order to meet 930, the top end viscosity must be no higher than 20. 929 spec oil is usually 5W30.

GLC, if this quote from Matt at Mobil corporation is true:

The Ford specification WSS-M2C930-A simply specifies that the 5W-20 meet ILSAC GF-4 ....
Then, the AMSOIL 0w30 does in fact meet/exceed Ford's spec (930-A) because Amsoil does list it as ILSAC GF-4. Just FYI.
