4.6 triton misfire

Went to autozone they found code said #2 misfire and egr plugged ( or whatever).

I've got a 1998 w4.6 170000 miles and I don't know if the plugs or cops (does it have cops?) have EVER been changed . Bought the truck w/ 116000 and I haven't done anything to it. YET!
With the misfire diag. I figured I might better change plugs, now after reading alot on this forum, thinking maybe better change cops (does it have cops?) too!
Reading JBREWS posts thinking I might should just go on ebay and buy the set of cops and plugs together from Kevin?
Comments, advice, help welcome! thanx trz

You have coil packs. What was the code number for the EGR? Do a search on throttle body cleaning and DPFE.

Better double check that. My cousin had a 99 4.6 liter and he had the plug and wire set up, NOT coil on plugs. Just open the hood. If you have a COP style ignition in which you will see a coil pack on each cylinder , if not you will have the plug and wire ignition with plug wires going to each cylinder.

I would definately have the plugs changed, stay with the factory recommended motorcraft plugs. If you have the COP style ignition you may need to change the boots that go between the coil pack and the plug itself. Granitelli makes a fantastic set of boots that will make a remarkable difference in the way your motor idles and repsonds to throttle even with the original coil packs. If you change the plugs your self, you will have a time getting out the plugs on cylinders 7 and 8 as the motor is back into the firewall there. Dont forget to use the antisieze on the plugs.

You will experience the misfire with a bad plug or coil pack.

I think you can pick up new COPS on ebay pretty cheap. Cheaper than the dealr $75 a piece bs.

COP has a coil on every plug Coil On Plug

a Coil Pack is just that a central "bank" of coils not sure if there is one or one for each head but a coil pack has spark plug wires

a COP set up doesn't
