We see a few posts from guys who have used the after market sensors and end up having them fail soon thereafter, requiring another replacement, usually out of warranty. Until I learn who makes the ones from Ford, I'd stick with the Ford ones.
How have you verified it's the DPFE sensor and not clogged throttle body ports or some other EGR system component fault?

Yeah, throttle body is clean. Hoses are new. I wasn't aware of the cleaning. I noticed that O'Reilly,(hi Lo) auto parts has a lifetime warranted, Borg Warner for 65.99. I'll take a look at the cleaning process first.
Thanks..

Ford updated their DPFE Sensors recently because of premature failures. The catch is , you can only aquire the updated DPFE's from the dealerships.
Sure , third party auto suppliers offer them with a lifetime warranty , but do you really want to deal with a return and the hassle when it fails ?

I replaced my '97 4.6L's DPFE a few years ago (Code P0401). Cost about $40 from the dealer. In my opinion, there's no use in cleaning it... they go bad, buy a new one.
There's a large and a small input on the DPFE, and the new one I got from the dealer had the inputs on opposite sides... big one on the left of the old DPFE, big one on the right of the new one.

Jbrew,I saw your post about cleaning the DPFE,very good info, after it was cleaned, what hardware did you use to re-assemble the DPFE since the rivets were drilled out to gain access inside? Thanks for your time and info.
I just went to the hardware - I took the Sensor with me and matched up some philips head machine nuts and bolts for it. They should have some at any hardware that fit in the recess perfectly..I can't recall the sizes sorry - it's best to take it with you..
Go to dealer
I went through two in four months with sensors from AutoZone. Fortunately they gave me my money back. You can order Ford parts from Millenium Ford in Seattle at much better prices if you order over the internet. DPFE sensor quoted over the phone was 123.xx. Same part from same place online priced 60.xx + 9.50 shipping. Look at www.fordparts-fordparts-fordparts.com
Just letting you guys know - that one I cleaned 3 weeks ago , just failed.
So cleaning might no t work that well - it didn't for me..I just had a PO402.
