Exclamation i think something is wrong

lately my truck has been acting weird. whenever i try to take off fast to enter a freeway, its like my truck is struggling. it sounds like the rmps are going up really high before it shifts and then its really jerky like its not getting any gas or something. does anyone know what this could be?

that kind of stuff could be alot of things.

If it sounds like the RPM's are through the roof (i'm assuming you don't have a tach.) i think it is getting enough fuel. Id start with air cleaner, make sure its clean, check tranny fluid, make sure its not burned up, all of my auto tranny troubles i've had have been fluid related. if all that stuff is good, start pulling plugs, see if those are crappy looking. check the timing, make sure your not down a cylinder or two.

hope it helps...thats just where i would start.

thanks, i just started happening after my oil change the other day. so that might have something to do with it. as far as my air filter goes. i have an AF1 and i just cleaned it the other day, so that shouldnt be the problem, but ill check out the plugs and fluids tomorrow. its sounds like a good place to start. thanks for the help.

Do you oil the filter ? I'm not sure on the AF1 - Oil may have contaminated the MAF Sensor . Sounds like a Air Metering prob.

Hows it idle? About 750 rpms ? Does it vary or surge?

Whens the last time you cleaned the TB ? IAC ?

I think I would check out those areas.

Good Luck

buckles take the Maf out of your AF1.You just spray it good.Don,t touch the wires with anythingi think they sell a electrical contact cleanermade for cleaning it.Then you just air dry it or use compressed air at like 5psi.
That very well could be the prob.

CRC MAF sensor cleaner. Electrical contact cleaner is fine too. Got all my cleaning supplies at NAPA.

My 98 is acting strange as well, maybe it's something in the air - Like Heat .

I dunno, when it reboots it barely runs (about 600 rpm) I have to rev it up for it to set idle. I never had to do that before.

It use to do all that on it's own - think I need a IAC ..

Hey Buckles, I agree with what was said earlier, pull your MAF and spray it clean with an electronic connector cleaner, Autozone has it. Also, it's very easy, too easy, to over-oil the AF1 filter which would foul your MAF. If you have access to a shop vac then take the filter off and duct tape it to the end of the vac hose and let that sucker run for a few minutes.. all excess oil will be gone..
BTW, not my idea, credit goes to another member for thinking of this, just can't remember his name!!

There is one other thing I would check. Go to the back of your truck and tell me what it says, then go to the front and see what it says. I think that could very well be your problem right there.
