5.4 with 2 problems...

i have an 05 lariat with the 5.4 3v.

1. is there any way to get back some of the power lost between the flywheel and the rear wheels??? would the torque converter change things??

2. i installed an AF1 today and noticed at stoplights and when stopped while in drive it idles at about 450 and there is a strong vibration in the brake pedal, but only when idleing. is this because of the AF1?

What size AF1 did you install?? The 3 inch or the 3.5 inch. If its the 3.5 i have heard a ton of guys saying you will geta lean condition while driving on the stock tune. I wouldn't know. I have the 4.6l. But im sure someone will chimn in.

I would say either talk to Mike and get a set of tunes going or take it off. Lean is really bad.

the inside diameter is 3 5/16 inches. if it is running lean, just how bad can it be?

Im no expert but if you put it on and the problem started there i would take it off and give someone who sells them for a living a call. Like i said. I dont have either the 5.4 or the AF1 but i do spend a ton of time on here and i have read that a lot of people get a lean condition when they put the larger on there with out custom tuning.

Sounds like you didn't reboot the comp and it's trying to run on it's old saved settings..

When you mess with incoming air flow you have to reboot - a full reboot or it will run like chit..

Diconnect the battery for 15 minutes - then reconnect and start. let it idle for about 5 minutes before you drive her. With that intake , you'll see a big difference in the 3 valve...

CAI, SIDO exhast and the edge. $ for $ i think that the tuner was the best mod ever. If i could do it over again i would have started there. I cant drive without her now...LOL

Edge and Troyer are posting some awsome Numbers for the 04+ 5.4l's. I would look into them both. Kinda matters as to what you want.

It sounds like you have an Idle Air Controller problem now or didn't plug up the air meter connector..
It doesn't matter what intake ducting size you put on, (when at idle).
The PCM software is programmed to find the correct idle by adjusting the IAC air bypass amount to get that idle as referenced by the crank position sensor.
The correct idle occurrs when the Crank position sensor rpm matches the programmed value within a narrow limit.
If the air meter cannot send the info to the computer or the IAC cannot control the air, you will get this kind of problem.
Either find what you did wrong or put the stock system back in place for a reference test.
Keep in mind you also have electronic throttle control in the mix of things.
As for runnning lean, that would show it'self a bit later with codes to support it.
These two conditions are seperate.
In any event, you would need to reboot the computer for the PCM to relearn the correct idle.
It should never go down to 450 unless the IAC is closed and uncontrollable.
The throttle body is opened a small amount by a throttle stop. Do not adjust this.
This is done to keep the throttle plate from sticking in it's bore when the engine cools and to give the IAC it's range for air control.
