What oil and filter?

I'm just curious as to what everyone uses for oil and filter on their F150's.

My "new to me" '99 F150 is due for an oil change at 61,000. I think I'm going to go with Mobil 1 5W-20 synthetic and a Motorcraft filter.

Right now I'm trying out Carquest brand full synthetic 5w-30, which is made by Valvoline. I also have a Carquest filter on which is a Wix filter.

It's been a while since this question's popped up I guess...like a couple days.

Use the recommended weight oil for your truck. Use something with the latest API rating. Use a good filter, I recommend Motorcraft. Change it regularly and sleep well at night.

No use going synthetic if you plan to change every 3k. Synthetic oil takes much, much longer than that to "wear out" or "break down". If you use synthetic you can get away with easily 6k.

For regular driving (i.e no heavy towing/hauling) the plain-jane dino oil is just fine. Save yourself a few bucks if you like changing every 3k. I use plain Valvoline 10-30 and a purolator filter. Avoid el-cheapo filters, the lack an anti-drainback valve that can cause excessive wear on the motor during startup.

I use GTX every 3k and it hasn't let me down. I have 170000. As long as you stick to changing it every 3k i dont think there is a differance.

Hate to steal the thread but.,......

What would you recomend for towing and hauling like you said in your post???

Mobil 1 oil and Mobil 1 filter...I challenge you...take a look at the quality and construction of a Motorcraft filter side by side with a Mobil 1 filter. Autozone carries both so you can do a comparison. Never ever ever heard of a problem with a motorcraft filter, but the difference between these two filters is undeniable!!
