Rebuild the carb and give it a complete tuneup.

If it is bogging when you floor it, you are probably dumping way more fuel into the cylinders than can actually be ignited.
Rebuild the entire carb. You'll also probably have to play with the jet sizing also to get it right.

I had almost the exact problem with my '79 F250 with a 460 swap. It sat for almost 4 years. I put a new battery and fuel. Got in turned the key and pumped the gas and it fired right up. Anyway while it sat the floats in the carb got seazed open and it was dumping all the fuel it could into the motor. It would hesitate alot and of course ran really rich. Your problem sound very similar, and a carb rebuild or a new carb should do the trick. I just got a rebuilt Holley carb right from Holley for 250.00 at an auto parts store.

most likely the carb accelerator pump not working.. or could be a timing issue. Look down the carb (with engine off) and move the accelorator linkage.. you sould see fuel streaming into the carb throat. If not the accelerator pump is bad... if it is... check float level. Like was said.. do a good tune up.

Try smelling and looking at the exhaust fumes. It sounds dumb but if you have the knowledge it will help a lot to find the problem. It will mostly tell you if the fuel mixture is off or posibly the timeing.

There are rebuild kits for the carb.
It is a bit involoved so read and understand.
Your discribing an accelerator pump delivery problem.
To much air with not enough fuel until the airflow speed and rpm gets high enough to draw enough fuel out of the nozzles/fuel bowl.
Do not change any jetting; it's not the problem on a stock motor.
