POP goes the coil cap

1997 Expedition, 5.4l with 114,000 miles

Figures...At least it didn't strand me to far from home. #3 cylinder on the passenger side from the front ( sorry not sure of the firing order ). Not sure if it blew the plug out as well, still surveying the damage.

And we just got back from the big weekend trip with the Toyhauler all loaded down with trailbikes and such.

Worst case scenario = ???

guess I am not understanding fully... ok the oil cap poped off... what is with #3 cylinder? If you didn't blow the plug out, I would say that you could have broken piston rings that caused blow by and pressurized the crank case and blew out the oil cap... Or maybe something as simple as a bad pcv valve. More info?

ROFLMAO... sorry bout that... I just got home from a 12 hour day... guess my eyes are buggy. Sounds like a blown plug with your COIL cap gone. except doesn't the 1997 5.4 have plug wires??

The 5.4 always had COP, the first couple years of 4.6 had wires.

Yeah, it blew the plug too...

It's going to be quite the tight squeeze to get those tools in there, Almost looks like a guy would be better off to pull the heads and go about it that way.

Anybody got an idea how much a reman set of heads for this pig would run??

Why go with a set of reman heads. If you do this you have to pull the old ones anyway. If your heads are good, try the timesert. You have nothing to loose. If you mess it up, THEN swap them for the remans.

If you have the head off you might as well put timeserts in the rest of them too while you are there.
