I've got 172k miles on mine and it's all original... I still get the same, if not a tad better mpg now then when I got the rig w/62k miles on the clock...

Which is around 15-16 mpg for the most part.

What do you consider 'bad' mpg?

Mitch

Is most of your driving 'city' or 'hwy' miles? If that's hwy, then that's pretty bad. If it's city, then that's about right.....

I do mostly hwy miles for my figure above.

My wifes little Rav4 gets 18 mpg only going to the park and ride during the week. When we take it on a straight hwy run, it'll get 28 mpg....

Hey Jbrew,

Well, last week I did a nice little 650 mile camping trip over a long 4 day weekend... Towed my #5000 TT very well and not a single hiccup! That's with over 110,00 miles on the B plugs now! Still holds locked third gear on the minor hills and will easily pull 3500 rpms @ 55 mph up 6% + grades! It's got a lot more in it too, but that's good enough for me!

I managed to average 10 mpg towing and got 16 mpg on the sightseeing runs.. Not too bad for a rig that by all rights should not even be able to run! ha, ha!!

Keith, don't know what say... Crown Vic will cut thru the air a bit easier then a 'brick'... How you pedal the thing can make a big diff depending on how you drive it too....

Mitch

You should be gettin better milage with that truck - theres definitely something wrong. Hard saying what - I would make sure the throttle body and elbow ports are clean , I think I would do that first and go from there..EGR and EVAP systems are something to look at . Your air metering sensors spit out the numbers your PCM uses to calculate fuel. Cleaning the MAF was something worth hitting.

Ignition System healthy ? Lots to consider .

Sounds good Mitch !!! I like the 97-98 5.4L's in these trucks - they keep there strength when there takin care of..

I've been trying to hone in my power assist - It use to brake a little better.

Autolites??? Rolling the dice there - Sometimes they work. IMHO , they don't work well in these motors - that's where I'm pointing the finger..
