Need Help Tuning Diablo Sport Predator Performance Programmer.

I have a 2007 F150 4x4 Supercrew 5.4L that "knocks" on 87octane & 89octane gas. I have intalled a cold air intake, and flow-master exhaust - my father told me to purchase the diablo programmer so I can run the 87octane gas and that should increase performance & remove the knocks.

With all of that being said does anyone have the perfect set-up for performance & gas mileage and of course stopping the knocking?

If it truly 'knocks' on gas alone why did you not bring it back to the dealer before buying a crappy diablo programmer? I hate to say it but you bought probably the worst 3 products possible if you wanted to maximize performance gains. If you are saying that it only 'knocks' after you installed these things, remove the K&N and diablo and save up for an AF1 and custom tunes from Troyer instead. Also you need to post this in the chips section to get more replies.

EDIT: For some reason I am assuming you have the K&N intake, just re-reading your post and see you didn't mention which you have. I'm sure you can keep that but I would really recommend going with Troyer for some custom tunes to solve your problems

For starters your truck is 'knocking' right? Isn't that enough? Second your not going to see near the gains you will a set of Troyer custom tunes. I don't know how much you spent on that programmer or how much you can get back, but if memory serves correctly you should be able to get 3 custom tunes from Troyer for less than 4 bills. Hopefully I am not breaking any forum rules by saying that since I didn't give any exact prices. I apologize if I have.

Just realized we have another local guy here. I live on the north side of town but work near you. I'm over here on Holly Hall @ 288 if you ever want to see how the troyer tunes perform.

Thanks Brian-

I am kind of "screwed" because I have already spent my budget on this stupid truck! I love the truck but I am getting really "pissed" off because I received bad info. I wish I would have went w/ Troy obviously but I am kind of stuck now... I would like to keep up w/ you - for future help if that's ok w/ you.

Sure, try removing the programmer from the equation and see how it runs for now....

Brian-

I haven't even installed the programmer yet- I will receive it tomorrow. I was hoping to install it and see what exact tuning - step by step to hopefully increase performance and remove the knocking.. I wish I would have found this forum before I purchased the programmer but of course I got some bad advice..

when you get it, try playing with the timing first. once you get that set right, then you can go from there.

what kind of air filter is it? how much did ya pay for the diablo?

Was it knocking before the intake was installed? If so take it to the dealer and have them look at it. If the intake is causing it remove it and put the stock intake back on.

Thanks for the replys!!

No the knocking started before I put the Cold Air intake and the exhaust. It wasn't knocking until I went to the car wash and then it started knocking. I don't know if the undercarriage wash caused water to go up in the motor or what! I have put super unleaded in the truck and it didn't knock as much but it still knocked!

Do you think I need to throw the stock air cleaner on and take it back to the dealership before I screw around with the programmer?

Lucky just read your post-

Are you familiar with the diablo programmer and do you have any advice on the settings?

You need to return it to stock and bring it to the dealer to be diagnosed. Your only going to make things worse if you try to use the programmer on it to correct this. Get the knocking fixed and then you can look at your other mods.

The Performance tune that comes with the diablo is set up for the best possible performance, with mileage in mind. It is also set up to use 93 or so Octane. In the Instrustions it explains how to get it to work well with 87, by playing around with the spark advance settings.
