Engine mods & warranty
Hey all,
I just bought a 2005 XLT 4x4 with 19k miles. Knowing that the gas mileage would be pretty bad I did some searching around the net for modifications to help improve this. I didn't find this forum until a couple of days ago and have read a bunch of threads on CAI's. I purchased a K&N FIPK from autoanything and it should arrive today. My question is will I void my warranty if I install this intake? I still have 16k+ miles and / or 10 months left on the factory warranty.
Thanks

Two things to consider.
The filter needs oil to be it's most effective at filtering.
That oil can contaminate the mass air meter and cause secondary problems that the dealer will blame on the filter oil/assembly.
Don't expect any significant fuel mileage gains over stock because the stock filter flows enough air in (normal driving).
Lastly on some trucks after 04, an after market intake (may) lean out the air meter and generate codes to that effect.
Good luck.

Example #1: You install an aftermarket CAI. The CAI cause a severe lean condition, and burns up your motor. Ford would not cover that failure.
Example #2: You use/install a tuner (Edge, Superchips, Xcal, etc). A few months later, your tranny goes kaput. The dealer find out that you've been using a tuner (which also reprograms your tranny). They could legitimately refuse (or try) the cover the claim.
Example #3: You install a CAI. A week later, one of your front tie rods goes bad. Ford will still have to warranty that part, as it has nothing to do with the mod (CAI) that you installed.
if you have the 5.4, you can use any roush part, including supercharger, and it will not void your factpry warranty....as roush is owned(maybe not best word) by ford, so their parts are covered by your base 3/36 warranty.
i work at a dealership and i agree with the above post from bamorris.

This would be the reference to this question....
