Question engine swap

I have an inline 6 in my 95 f150. I have a guy that will sell me a cobra 302 with a trick flow intake, bbk heads, headers, and a 75mm throttle body. there is more but you get the jist. It came out of a 97 cobra mustang. Will this go in my truck? Will I lose any functions? ac, power steering, etc. Will my transmission bolt up to it or do i need to get another. if i can baby it (ie not dog it and race it) until next year im gonna put a T56 6 speed in it.

experienced replies encouraged.

everything will bolt right up. the hard part is gonna be that because of your power distribution box beig for the inline 6 you're going to have to wire 2 injectors straight to the ECU

Ford stopped using the 302 engine in the Mustang/Cobra in 1995. The 1997 would have had a 4.6.

No, it won't. The engine perches on the frame are wrong, and the radiator will have to be swapped, too.

That makes absolutely NO sense.

The injectors don't go thru the power distribution box.

Obviously, with any engine swap like this (going to a DIFFERENT type/size), you'd have to use the donor engine wiring harness, and preferrably the donor engine BAY harness, which would include the PDB. That's what I've done on all the vehicles I've done this to: my '83 Bronco w/'95 4.9L; my '94 CV w/'00 OBD-II engine; my friend's '75 Bronco w/'88 5.0L.

If you're REALLY determined, that doesn't matter. Check out what Quint did...

Wanna bet $1000 Steve 83? just did the exact same swap on my 96 F150 and only 6 injectors were firing till i wired them directly to ECU . Since the ECU plug runs directly to Power Distribution Box on one side and then the engine wiring harness connects on the other side of the box. I've now done this exact same swap on 4 different trucks. I'm speaking from experience

If you've got a grand that you don't need, sure; send it to me.

The injector wires go thru the HARNESS that contains the PDB to get to the EEC, but not thru the BOX itself. You said the injectors had to be rewired because of the box; I said they don't go thru the box, and the EVTM in any of the Ford service CDs or DVDs will prove me right. I win your bet. You owe me a grand. I prefer PayPal.

As I said, I've done this a few times, too. Did you look at any of the links in that post?

The clutch itself needs to match the trans; the flywheel needs to match the engine. They'll all bolt up.

well it looks like steve and taisa knows their stuff. Bolt right up is what I like to hear but I wanna know any little detail that will change. I read that I will need a new radiator? true? and motor mounts, change them or bolt right up? I'm still really new to this kind of mod so forgive all of the questions. Oh, AC and power steering. Will/can I keep them? Will I need to buy some Electric fans?
all things i need/want to know

on the rad you have 2 choices. One is to get a 5.0 rad or the second is to do what I did and keep the 4.9 rad and buy the flexible rad hoses to make your own rad hoses that fit. You will need to put 5.0 motor mounts on the 5.0 motor as well you will need the 5.0 mounts that bolt to the frame(the ones the motor mounts bolt to)

If you get the WHOLE donor engine including all the belt-driven accessories & wiring harness, frame perches (you'll have to remove some rivets), radiator, & hoses, it'll be a bolt-in. You could swap to e-fans, but there's no advantage & it can cause problems. Better to just use the donor fan & shroud.

. . .

well, i bet I just get a flex hose and use that. as far as perches and what not, all I know I get is the engine and the wiring harness/computer. Where do I get everything else? jegs? scrap yards?

scrap yard for the perches. Flex hose is what I used to make up my rad hoses too
