Dead!

well my truck completely died today. i was making a u-turn and when i turned my wheel, it died. my a/c has been messed up for a while. and i think it could be the clutch on it that wont let the belt turn. cause it tries to start but its like its locked up. anyone know what this could be?

Sorry to hear about your truck .. taking the belt off won't hurt anything, it just drives the accessories.. oughta help ya narrow down the problem..

It drives the accessories... like your WATERPUMP. Don't run it long without it....

X2 it's just to see if it starts, if it does somewhere there's a pulley or something keeping the belt from turning

Your truck has failsafe cooling. The PCM will disable up to 4 injectors in order to pump air through the cylinders to help cool it down. You can drive till the PCM shuts it down. If it starts and runs then the compressor and or clutch pulley is seized. While you have the belt off try and turn the accessories. If one of them is seized you will know right away.

imo if the compressor its self ceased, that would probably stop the motor. the clutch, on my ranger at least, ceased on me and started grinding and shooting sparks but kept running.

That is my point. If with the belt off the truck runs but will not with the belt on the compressor/clutch is seized.

my question was if the clutch its self was enough to stall the motor... in my one experience it wasnt, so perhaps it would be the compressor if it was ac related?

I would think a siezed pulley would shred the serpentine belt before the engine stalled. I had a belt tensioner sieze which resulted in lots of smoke and squealing for a minute then the belt was gone.

Since it's not asked yet and sometimes the simple stuff is overlooked in a stressful situation. Did you check to see if your alternator is dead and your battery is drained?
