Orange Coolant? Where to buy?

O3 FX4 is ready for a coolant change. Where should I purchase the orange stuff. What's the difference between orange and green coolant? Any tips or tricks that will help with the change??

Thanks, FishX65

I don't understand why anyone would go with Premixed Antifreeze.

Why pay twice as much for 1/2 a gallon of water and 1/2 a gallon of Antifreeze in a 1 gallon jug.

Is adding water really that difficult.

Just my 2 cents. But I don't understand.

same reason people drive 5 miles out of there way to save 5 cents a gallon a gas. the guy wanted a answer on antifreeze. not economics.

I've always bought the "real" stuff, mainly because it only became an option a couple of years ago. The last time I flushed and refilled, I used the premixed for convenience. I know my concentration is 50/50. I used to work on older cars that always leaked, and I'd top em off with water once a month. Who knows what ratio I was at after 3-4 months. Also when I did have to pull a radiator, or replace a hose, I'd add a gallon of antifreeze and fill the rest with water. Sometimes it would take a minute of squirting in with hose, and sometimes it would take 5 seconds. Who knew what ratio I ended up with. I guess now that I'm older, money is less of an issue, don't want the hassle....I buy the premixed. Of course I drive newer cars and trucks, so I don't know if I'll ever use that half jug of leftover premixed I have in my garage. It is more expensive, but I think hassle wise, it pays off.

To make this relevant to the original poster, some of the stuff says it's compatible with both types, so make sure you get that kind.

Your F150 does not use orange coolant! It should have "Premium Gold" coolant in it, Motorcraft number VC-7-A. Do not go out and get orange colored or Dexcool style coolant.

The difference between the orange and green stuff is not that one is premixed and the other isn't. The orange formula is silicate and phosphate free and the green formula isn't. Use the type recommended and only that type. Using the wrong type can cause premature wear.

I guess my question should have been, Does Prestone or any other company sell an antifreeze that matches the specs of the Ford Premium Gold that I can purchase at the local parts store? Do most of you guys just use the Motorcraft Premium Gold from the dealer?

Get the Prestone in the yellow jug

that says it is compatible with ALL types of antifreeze and ALL makes of vehicles on the front of the jug. It is the premix 50/50.

I use Zerex Antifreeze Coolant, G-05 formula. It mets Ford WWS-M97851-A1 requirements. It's in a gold plastic bottle. Same as Ford Premium VC 7-A. All of this info is on the back label. It says Ford vehicles 2002 and newer.
