Starting Problems

I’m having a starting problem with my 2000 F150, 5.4. I’ve done several searches on this problem but nothing seems to match my particular symptoms.

What’s happening is when I attempt to start the engine it just keeps cranking, I can’t tell if it’s gas or spark related. If I wait a couple minutes, the engine will start right up and runs fine and every subsequent start is normal. At first this was only happening every 4 to 6 weeks and it only seems to happen on the first start of the day. Now it is becoming more frequent, like every morning. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem intermittently, I dropped my key in some water once, I have the ones with the little chip in it and after I switched to my spare it hasn't done it. if you have the chipped keys try switching to a different one or having a new one made. If you don't have that kind of key I don't have any suggestions for you, sorry. good luck

If you don't know how to check for spark or fuel delivery problems go ahead and take it to a shop. The more you read and don't know how to diagnose the different systems you will start putting parts on and wasting $$$. I would be looking at a fuel delivery problem.

Hey there I was having problems with my 06 F150 5.4l in getting misfires and cranking issues. The dealership says to change s/p. I bought new s/p from them, they were suppose to be new ones which they were. It did take care of the misfires and codes but had major cranking issues. Took it back to the dealership and they say that it was wrong s/p. Apparently there was even newer ones than the preveous new ones. Changed out the new ones with newer ones and so far the cranking, misfires and codes have all disappeared. Good luck

Well my truck finally gave up the ghost. Went to start it and it wouldn’t start. Waited 5 –10 minutes like always, no luck. Waited another 5-10 minutes still no luck, after a couple hours of trying it, no start. Had the truck towed to the dealership, the problem was the fuel pump. They changed the fuel pump/sending unit and the fuel filter and that seem to be the fix. Thanks for your replies; this is a great forum.
