engine skip

will a misfiring cylinder make the truck jump, like i am tapping the brakes, when accelerating? will that make the cel come on?

Depends on whats wrong.
An intermittant crank or cam senor will make the engine quit as if you turned the ignition off and on.
Certain trans faults could do the same.
