Have an '05 150 5.4 with 56,642 mls on it now. Noticed tapping( almost like a lifter tap) at around 25, 30,000 mls. Doesn't do it all the time, just every now and then. Not sure what it is. Anyone else with the 5.4l experiencing this and if so any idea what it is and what to do? Thanks, any input would be appreciated.

 

I've heard exactly what your talkin about in 4.6's with the same mileage as well, try a synthetic oil at your next oil change interval. I noticed since I switched to a syn, very quiet.

 

Thanks supercrew. Believe it or not, all I've ever run in it is a full syn. 5-20 was only available in a full syn at the time I bought my truck, at least that was the only thing I could find so thats all I've ever used.
