Wheel Hop

Is there a way to control wheel hop. I believe I busted both my rear shocks from a bad wheel hop I get in second. It didn't hook up in second like this until I installed the Transgo kit.

The shocks fell out after jumping a steep railroad crossing (just having fun) . When the drivers side fell I must have landed on it straight up and down bending it in half.

It flipped up and almost took out my brake lines (it bent the hell out of them) and creased my diff cover.

I ordered a set of Bilsteins which are still 2 days out and don't want the same thing happening to them.

Would a sway bar help with hop?

Heres a pic of what the shocks did to the diff cover -

I stay out of it in first (has a slippage issue) - baby it and let it roll a bit before I tromps it

Second transfers all the power to the ground - first won't. This E4OD just

won't blow , it's hurt tho, so I let second do all the work and it's very heathy.

SUCKS waiting for shocks , but at least I 'll have them before the weekend

So that's what there called - "ladder bars" I couldn't think of what they were called Duhh (brain fart) - I never needed them, but yeah I imagine theres twisting going on - heres what it did to my brake lines , no leaks tho -

Nope , not this one , all others before were lifted. My 89 was lifted 12" w/17/44's . I had a 302 w/4.11's but no traction bars . This 5.4L has quite a bit more power than that 302 had .

Holey Cow dude , your truck is awesome!!

I wish it was lifted so I could have purchased the silver w/black boots Bilsteins - They don't offer them for stockers ..

i havent heard of many stock hight vehicles having wheel hop axle wrap issues, maybe just throwing some good shocks on there will fix your problem, good luck

Hey Jbrew,

I had some really bad wheel hop on my rig too. I got these to resolve another issue, but it also cured my hopping..

I did this 'mod' some 6 years ago and have not regretted it since. I notice you have 4 stock leaf springs as opposed to my stock 3 leaf springs, but I suspect they are probalby still pretty "soft" leafs.

I paid around $150 for these and about 45 minutes to assemble and install.

They did stiffin up the ride some, but for the better IMO... I can actually corner now and haul a load in the bed!

Just another thought or option for ya!

Mitch

Wow thanks Mitch - I will do something like that if I still have the problems after the new shocks - I 'm betting that I might.

I bet that set up takes the twist right out of her!!!

However I do like the soft ride in the back and I don't pull nothing with that truck anymore (that's what the Freightliner's for )

That's some rig Jbrew! Probably cost more then my house! ha, ha!

Anyway, I got new shocks after I got the overload springs and they really did make a difference in the 'ride'... Still 'firm', but much better when the bumps did come along!

The stock shocks are 'bad' when they are new compared to the aftermarket IMO.... I replaced the shocks at about 70,000 miles and the difference was incredible.... I've got 100,00 miles on the same aftermarket shocks and they are still as smooth as when there were new....

I know that's going to be hard to believe from me, since I've 'claimed' good luck with other aftermarket products that others don't care for...

But, that's what's worked for me, so there you go!

Mitch

Yeah , That thing was a heavy note at first(over 200,000), but it's still paying for itself and then some - It usually has a 20,000 lb loaded Auto Bauker or a Nascar Simulator behind her traveling the states hosting different events. You may have rubbed up against her at some point in the past - she gets around..

Hahaa , yeah , you always have to stick with what works best for yourself vrs the others delema's - They can beat up on a product all they want , but if you have the miles behind yuh that prove the product , then nothing more needs to be said, really

BTW - You still have those "Botch" plugs in there

So those are called overload springs then. Okay Thanx - I'll look into those . I have a feeling I'm going to need some..

Thanx again Mitch
