What are yall's thoughts on E85 for an '06 supercrew 5.4L?
I feel like it's making more power, in fact it feels faster and makes a sweet sweet high rev sound right before it drops a gear, however, with this new power (supposedly), I cant dominate a burnout to save my life, whereas with regular unleaded, I could sit there and burn the rubber on my tires forever without even having to try.
What do you think?

Your truck isn't designed to use E85. This is one of the dirty little secrets that they don't hear about much. You have to buy a vehicle that is designed for E85. Besides you get a LOT worse fuel economy. So the price would have to be WAY lower to offset the milage penalty. Now they are saying that E85 makes a lot more smog than straight gasoline. The predict that if E85 is in widespread use that 200 more people a year will die because of the increase. Got to love the tree huggers..... NOT!

i seen them on trucks today turn an 07 reg cab into a stage 3 roush and they said it could run on e85 just fine. anyone have any sources to prove/disprove this?

I think the '06 and later are all modded to run the E85.. everything I've read says 33-40% less mpg than reg unleaded tho, so I don't really see what the benefit is.. maybe it makes some folks feel all warm and fuzzy, I guess..

the price comparison is pure b/s.. the price of blended and E85 fuel cost about the same as regular up in dallas.

as for fuel economy....ive been driving her so hard trying to get a damn burnout going with no success that im just watching the needle drain down minute by minute, but i can definetly say it is worse
its been raining here alot lately and its been really humid, ive heard that humidity can rob your engine of about 50 horses, is that true?

E85 here is only $.30 cheaper a gallon. You will not get more power from E85. It's a higher octane (which means it needs hotter spark to fully burn), but molecule for molecule, E85 converts to way less energy than gasoline. Your vehicle should lose 20% mpg when you put E85 in, because it takes 20% more E85 to give you power close to what gasoline does. It takes more than a gallon of gasoline to cut enough corn down, and it takes longer to refine than crude oil, so they're actually wasting natural resources by making E85.
Nobody runs gasoline in combines anymore, they mostly switched to diesel in the 70's, which can also be made from soybeans.
Its a good thing as we don't have to depend on the most unstable enviroment in the world for our energy as much, but still has some bugs to get worked out. They are working on making gas out of plant material, like plain grass and cornstalks too, which is typically cut anyway and regarded as waste.
The biggest problem is cars are set up to run on gas first and E85 second, it would probably be different if they were set to run on E85 first. It is about $.40 cheaper here in Omaha with new plants being built all over, it is still pretty spotty though, until last year I had never seen a pump for it.

the way i read it once, a higher octane fuel can be compressed in the cylinder farther, thus giving more room for action when the head is driven up from the explosion. i dunno maybe i read it wrong. as far as e85 goes, sugar ethanol is far less costly to make than corn ethanol. but corn isnt the major crop in the u.s. now is it. its amazing what lobbyist can do in a fascist country. we could be making fuel from hemps seeds, a crop that can regrow in about 120 days, but the left over doobies would make us all insane crazy murdering rapists with no moral convictions or judgement. and we'd eat all the cheetos.
