Talking Idling

Need some advice or opinions on letting my 06 F150 XLT with the 5.4 engine idle for a long time. Having a little parting lot romance with a pretty blonde and let my truck idle for 3 hours with the air cond on the other day. Will this cause any problems or damage to the engine. Thanks.:

You prolly took a lot of life out of the oil, change it ASAP.

And try to finish up a lil' quicker.......

Not to ruin your day, but they just had to change out a new 5.4 3v motor out of a brand New Police Expedition at work, I heard that the excessive idling made her blow, Interdepartment Memo sent out, asap after new engine install- Title "No Prolong Idling in Expedition".........

Me, same situation, but the rad puked on me a few days later. Coincidence? maybe, but that, and the fact gas costs $1.12 a litre anymore makes me shut the engine off. Just don't make it a habit, or get a room!!!!

I wouldn't get too concerned about it, but try to avoid doing that(the idling). Check the oil and change if necessary.

Keeping your foot close to the gas peddle may help in that situation the next time. Might help in keeping the R's up

When the windows start to steam up inside - it's time to clean the carbon out

i have a 96 crown vic ex cruiser. started her up realized i didnt lock door to my house. i go to lock it i hear phone ring. it was a woman so of course it a minumum of 20 mins on the phone with her. i turn on tv looking for a good movie otherwise ill go insame listening to the blabbing etc.. anyway i hang up with her and now im into the movie. i end up dozing off, wake up 4 hours later wondering where my keys are. went outside she was idling nicely. love that heavy duty cooling on those things.

This sounds really odd to me. Just curious can someone explain to me why idling at 600 rpms would hurt an engine more than running down the highway at 2000???? I mean unless it over heats at idle from lack of air movement than I don't get why it would hurt.

The engine runs a little warmer at idle (no airflow through radiator or intake), taking it's toll on oil viscosity....add that to the fact you change the oil at 5k, and the motor ran for hours at idle and didn't turn the odometer.

Yeah I guess. It just doesnt seem like without completely over heating that the oil could endure the same wear as 3000 miles unless you ran your truck for like 2 days.

Been thru that before testing all week @ idle for long periods at a time and it beat the hell out of my oil - I was even running amsoil at the time and it still took it's tole. I noticed when I stated accumulating more than normal that white solybile chit in my intake...
