Troyer E-Fan questions
Troyer E-Fan questions
I have my high side right off of the top on the AC but it runs constantly with the AC and I have gone through 2 fans already. I can't find the "destructions" to refer to so I can change the hook up to allow the fan to cycle with the compressor. If anyone can assist I would GREATLY appreciate it. I just need to know which which wire on my 99 5.4 to connect to on the compressor or if anyone has any other suggestions - thanks !!!
I wouldn't connect it to cycle with the compressor, your AC temps will go way up probaly 60-65 out the vent instead of 50-55 degrees. Often times your compressor will cycle for maybe 1-2 seconds between 3-5 seconds of non-use, this is not enough time for your fan to cool your condenser for an effective AC system. Call up Troyer and explain your situation, they would probably have the best answer.
The point is, the secondary fan is suppose to kick on with the compressor so it draws air through the condenser thus cooling the AC temps. I can't recall which it is, and I'm not sure where those destructions got to...either way you are suppose to probe the wire to be sure. Just call and ask Anita.
For the secondary fan on my setup it's tied into a purple wire with a white stripe (?) under the fuse panel/box on the drivers side of the engine compartment. It's not hooked directly to the A/C unit or any wires thereof. FYI
Thanks for the replies - I think I am gonna leave it like it is but put a switch in to turn the secondary (AC side) fan off when I am on the road. Those 6 hour road trips in the Texas heat with the AC on I really don't need the fan to running full time when I am running 70+ MPH don't you guys think?
Do it like JMC said and it will cycle only with the compressor. You can still add the switch to turn it off on highway runs but can turn it back on in stop and go traffic, the best of both worlds. I have mine to cycle with the compressor and have never had to change the Derale fans in over 4 years.
Mike at Madden has a unique switch that only cycles the fan when the evaporator temp reaches a certain point, which is probably the best way period.

Mike at Madden? Is it an actual mechanical (manually operated) switch or some automatic / inline deal with another probe in the "evaporator"? I hate that the AC kicks on my secondary fan while highway crusin and running defrost in the winter, but haven't done anything about it yet.
Both my fans are set to turn on at different temps of the rad, the secondary at a higher one. The primary is set to turn on with the A/C compressor as i described. The secondary one is not wired. Each controller has a lead to run a second fan which I used to connect to a pilot light to know when the fans are on. The main feed out of the fuse box that allows the fans to power on is wired to a relay that is on when turned off and off when the switch is flipped. This allows me to turn off the fans under water, 4x4.
I also have two separate switches to turn on the fans at any time. This allows me full control of t he fans. I have had the fans for over 5 years and not a problem yet.

Who is Mike from Madden?
Sorry,
He posts as madferraristi. He has been helping with Lightning blower swaps to regular 5.4 F150s for quite a while but he is usually only posting on the Superchargers & Turbochargers page.
Heres his web site

here is a link to the switch
